Rain is Friday winner at Marshalltown

By Janelle Bates PRICE, Utah (Aug. 20, 2022) – Payce Herrera won both Friday and Saturday Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact features at Desert Thunder Raceway. He brought home the $1,000 grand prize sponsored by the Desert Thunder Raceway Foundation. Torrential downpour and brief flooding postponed Saturday’s races but the crew at Desert Thunder worked tirelessly to keep everything running smoothly. The young Herrera was not deterred. The busy eighth grader ranks first in Utah state point standings and  Saturday’s trip to victory land marked his 11th win of the season. “I felt pretty good winning this weekend,” he said. “It was fun and exciting.”  Earlier this month, Herrera completed pre-registration for the 40th annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Boone Speedway in Iowa. “I feel good about going to Super Nationals. SAVOY, Texas – The much-traveled Beau Collins will travel back to Boone Speedway in September with a goal he knows is easier set than accomplished: Making the Saturday night main event at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s.  From Savoy, Texas, and the defending IMCA Modified track champion at Grayson County Speedway, Collins has spent much of the 2021 season racing around the Razor Chassis South Central Region, complementing Southern Oklahoma Speedway starts with outings at Bells, Abilene Speedway, Boyd Raceway, Heart O’ Texas Speedway and Kennedale Speedway Park. “We like to travel around and not stay tied down to one track It’s fun to race at different tracks further away from home and we race with William Gould a lot,” Collins said. “If you want to be the best, you’ve got to race with the best and a lot of the best drivers are in Modifieds.” Collins got his start in go karts at the age of six. BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 13) – Ricky Thornton Jr. raced to wins at the beginning and the end of a history-making week, Donavon Smith and Johnathon Logue became three-time champions while Nathan Ballard motored to his first title at the 2020 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s.  In all, 834 cars – including 245 Modifieds and an event record 207 Stock Cars – saw action dur­ing a socially distanced week at Boone Speedway that also saw more than its share of rain and rescheduled race programs.
