IMCA Modifieds chase $5,000 Bakersfield Nationals top check

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – IMCA Modifieds race for $5,000 on Sunday, night two of the Nationals at Bakersfield Speedway. 

One of the top-paying events of the season in California sees Modifieds run for $1,200 to win, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods for $1,000 to win and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for $500 to win on opening night Saturday, May 29. Along with the big Modified payday on Sunday, SportMods race for $1,000 to win and Stock Cars for $750 to win on May 30.

Both Modified features are Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events while the winner of Sunday’s Stock Car feature joins the list of B & B Chassis All-Star qualifiers. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Shaw Race Cars Western and EQ Cylinder Heads Southern region points, KMJ Performance State and track points will be awarded. 

Start money each night is $100 for Modifieds and SportMods and $50 for Stock Cars. 

Entry fees and pit passes each day are $50. Grandstand admission is $20 for adults, $10 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. 

Fans can bring their own food and drink but no glass bottles; there will be free camping in the north parking lot. 

Pit gates open at noon, the drivers’ meeting is at 3:30 p.m., the grandstand opens at 4 p.m., and hot laps are at 4:30 p.m. with racing at 6 p.m. both days.

The pits open at 3 p.m. and an open practice for all divisions runs from 6-9 p.m. on Friday. Pit passes that evening are $40 and grandstand admission is free.

Bakersfield Speedway primes for opening night March 6

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The long-awaited green flag flies for the first time this season Saturday, March 6 at Bakersfield Speedway. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods all see action at the California oval idled for much of 2020 by the Covid-19 pandemic. “It was a crazy, weird season last year,” acknowledged Promoter Scott Schweitzer. “It’s exciting to be able to go racing again. Kiefer repeats IMCA Modified triumph at McGowan Memorial

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (June 27) – Racing returned to Bakersfield Speedway and Austin Kiefer returned to victory lane following Saturday’s Richie McGowan Memorial. Kiefer topped the IMCA Modified special ahead of Robby Sawyer for a second straight year, earning $1,000. Jerry Flippo, Cody Laney and Troy Foulger completed the top five. “It was pretty cool deal. To be able to win this race twice in a row means a lot to me,” said Kiefer, already a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot candidate. “I grew up watching Tina and Brad (Pounds, McGowan’s daughter and son-in-law) race.”  Kiefer started outside Sawyer on the front row and led every lap. DeVolder, Hogge crowned at Bakersfield, Jernagan takes Speedweek SportMod title

(Aug. 15) – Shane DeVolder won the battle, Bobby Hogge IV won the war and Garrett Jernagan won both on the final night of California IMCA Speedweek presented by Hoppes Motorsports.  DeVolder won the IMCA Modified feature at Bakersfield Speedway, earning $1,000 and a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth, while runner-up Hogge took the overall Modified tour title.  Jernagan clinched the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod crown with his fifth $750 victory of the week.  DeVolder regained the lead from Alyssa Smith before a long green flag run got him into lapped traffic.
