81 Speedway building toward future with IMCA STARS Mod Lite sanction

PARK CITY, Kan. – 81 Speedway builds toward the future with IMCA STARS Mod Lites added to select Saturday race programs in 2021.

Ten race dates have been announced for this season at the 3/8-mile dirt oval in Park City, a suburb of Wichita, with opening night on April 17.

IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing shows to follow are April 24, May 8, June 12, June 26, July 10, July 24, July 31, Aug. 21 and Sept. 11.

“We ran this class non-sanctioned last year. I think the IMCA sanction will make the program stronger, give it structure and allow our drivers to race for national and state points,” promoter John Allen said. “We’re working with other tracks in scheduling races. That’s going to benefit all our drivers.”

Response from Mod Lite drivers to the sanctioning announcement has been understandably positive.

“They’re excited. I think they’ve been looking forward to something like this,” said Allen. “There have been other guys thinking about building cars but were waiting until they found out something for sure. With us aligning with IMCA, that will help.”

“This is going to make car counts even better and will benefit the drivers,” continued Allen, who raced an IMCA Modified during his own career. “We want to build for the long term and the IMCA STARS sanction helps us do that.”

81 is another Kansas track with a previous connection to IMCA, having sanctioned the Modifieds from 1987-1991.

“We’re glad to be part of the future at 81 Speedway,” said IMCA Vice President of Operations Jim Stannard, “and look forward to building on the foundation that the Mod Lite sanction provides.”
