IMCA Modifieds chase $2K at Cocopah’s Deacon Dick show

SOMERTON, Ariz. (April 10) – Californian Kaden Cochrun got a big confidence boost and a check for $1,000 for his fourth straight IMCA STARS Mod Lite win in Arizona. The national points leader pocketed a grand for his Saturday Yuma Auto and RV Night victory at Cocopah Speedway. He’d started ninth, passed A.J. Whisler for the lead on the fourth circuit and led to the end of the 25-lapper. Cochrun led by almost a straightaway before the green, white, checkered finish. J.D. SOMERTON, Ariz. (Jan. 6) – Patience put $1,000 in Tanner Black’s pocket. With a record 161 entries in the pits for opening night of the IMCA.TV Winter Nationals, Black returned to his home state to win Wednesday’s feature for IMCA Modifieds at Cocopah Speedway. He reeled in Russell Allen on the 16th circuit in a fast-paced main event that ran 25 caution-free laps. “I decided I needed to roll around the bottom and be patient,” said Black, who’d run second the first 15 times around the track. “Maybe he’d make a mistake and I could get around him.” Allen ended in second while defending track and Shaw Race Cars Western Region champion Chaz Baca was third.  Zane DeVilbiss and Ethan Dotson completed the top five. (Jan. 15) ­ ­– Five drivers were feature winners and four more became champions on the final night of the IMCA.TV Winter Nationals presented by Yuma Insurance at Cocopah Speedway. Ethan Dotson, Chanse Hollatz, Shane Paris and Bobby Horton topped point standings in their respective divisions while Tripp Gaylord, Shelby Williams, Ryan Peery, Thomas Daffern and Riley Clem took the checkers Saturday evening at Somerton. Gaylord cleared Grey Ferrando for the early lead in the IMCA Modified 25-lapper, then set a wicked pace and caught up with the back of the field. The lone caution took place on lap 13 and Kollin Hibdon got close following the restart but couldn’t quite catch the leader. Gaylord’s $1,000 win made him Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible. Hibdon was second and Tim Ward third.
