Matson Breaks Through in WaKeeney Hobby Stock Feature

By Sheldon Wickwar WaKeeney, Kan. (May 15, 2026) — The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks capped off the racing program Friday night at WaKeeney Speedway, and it was McCook, Nebraska driver Trent Matson racing to his first B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region victory of the season. Three heat races kicked off the evening with Dillon Thompson, Matson, and James Phelps each picking up victories. Mitchell Fischer claimed the B Main to lock himself into the feature lineup. James Love and Dillon Thompson led the field to green in the main event, with Thompson quickly taking command while heavy hitter Morgan Olmstead settled into third. Matson, the newest member of Getaway Motorsports, climbed into second and engaged Thompson in a fierce duel for the lead. A caution for a Bret Conness spin after contact involving James Phelps, which also collected Ethan Fabrizius, briefly slowed the pace. Once racing resumed, Thompson and Matson continued their battle before Matson finally worked his way around Thompson as the laps wound down. Matson drove on to score his fifth career victory and [Read More]

Huggins Hustles to Boone Mod Lite Victory; Multiple Make-Up Features Set for Saturday

By Jane Burd BOONE, Iowa (May 16, 2026) — Joel Huggins raced from ninth starting position to score his first Stealth Racing IMCA Mod Lite victory of the season Saturday night at Boone Speedway before rain postponed the remainder of the evening’s racing program. Landon Elliott paced much of the 15-lap Mod Lite feature after taking the early lead while Charlie Brown moved into the top spot on lap nine. Huggins, from Des Moines, steadily worked his way through the field and grabbed the lead from Brown on lap 12 before driving away for the victory. Brown finished second ahead of Elliott, Jaxon Carr, and Bryan Zehm, who advanced from 12th to fifth. Garrett Barber turned in an impressive charge from the 21st starting position to finish sixth. The race was slowed on lap five when Bryan Compart of Madrid, Iowa suffered a series of hard flips in turn four. Compart was okay but unable to continue. Whitman Outduels Schmidt in Wild Outagamie Modified Showdown

By Joe Verdegan SEYMOUR, Wis. (May 15, 2026) — Suamico’s Johnny Whitman snatched the lead on lap 10 and fended off a hard-charging Jayden Schmidt to win the Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified feature Friday night at Outagamie Speedway. Whitman, who started eighth, picked up his third Razor Chassis North Central Region victory of the season and first triumph of 2026 at Outagamie Speedway after surviving a thrilling late-race duel with Schmidt. Hometown driver Konnor Wilinski blasted into a big lead early from his pole position. The second-generation driver quickly built up a full straightaway advantage in the opening four circuits. Wilinski had already begun slicing through lapped traffic by lap eight while Whitman carved his way through the field, grabbing second by lap seven. Following a lap nine caution, Whitman whisked past Wilinski to take the lead at the halfway mark. Meanwhile, Schmidt, who started 19th, stormed through the field and reached second by lap 11 before powering past Whitman for the lead one lap later. The duo raced door-to-door over the next several circuits, exchanging [Read More]
