Springfield quick to resume racing Saturday night

(Aug. 24) – Bad Boy Mower IMCA Modified point leader James Thompson shocked the field by moving in the high groove on lap 15 and pulled away to record his fifth  fea­ture win of the season at The Quick-Quarter of the Springfield Raceway.  Thompson, who twice this season has pulled off late-race wins by using the bottom groove to his advantage, showed patience on the ultra-quick surface after the track was hit by heavy rain show­ers both Friday night and Saturday morning.  After searching for a spot on the track to gain ground on the leaders, Thompson used two early cautions to get position as leader Bobby Pearish and last week’s winner Ryan Gilmore were wag­ing an all-out war for the spot.  Action went solid green after the lap three caution. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (July 11) – Steven Bowers Jr. is known as one of the top IMCA Modified drivers in the Jet Racing Central Region. On Saturday night at the Quick-Quarter of Springfield Raceway, Bowers became the first repeat winner in six Bad Boy Mowers IMCA Modified events by taking the top spot from Trevor Drake following a lap nine restart. Bowers started the 20-lap feature from seventh and let the pack start to loosen up before making his charge. Drake had grabbed command on lap four and was trying to put distance between his 12d car and the rest of the field. The caution on lap nine bunched the field together again. Drake continued to ride the extreme top groove on the racy surface but Bowers was a rocket off the bottom side and grabbed the front spot coming off turn two and left the race for the runner-up. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Quick-Quarter of the Springfield Raceway has been given the green flag to get the 2020 race season underway as Ken Schrader will be in competition against the tough area IMCA Modified drivers this Saturday, May 30.  The pit gates will open at 3:45 p.m. with the grandstands opening at 5 p.m. Hot laps are slated to start at 6:15 with racing action slated at 6:45 p.m. Draw cut-off will be 6:10 p.m. Pit passes for adults are $35 with adult grandstand admission $15.  Social distancing guidelines will be in effect in the pits and the grandstand. Masks are optional and hand sanitizer will be available at the track.
