Longtime IMCA supporter, champion, Greg Kastli dies at 72

WATERLOO, Iowa (September 11, 2025) – Racing veteran and longtime supporter of IMCA, Greg Kastli passed away Wednesday, September 10. He was 72. Kastli, who piloted an IMCA Late Model throughout much of his career, earned multiple feature wins, track titles and an IMCA Super Nationals title, also won 18 IMCA Modified features and the 1986 Modified track titles at Independence Motor Speedway and Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway. Throughout his Late Model career, Kastli earned 40 sanctioned Late Model wins and track championships at Fayette County Raceway in West Union, Iowa, in 1994, along with four track titles in Independence in 1994, 2001, 2002, and 2003. He ended the 2025 season tied for third on the all-time Late Model wins list at Independence. Kastli was also the IMCA Super Nationals Late Model champion in 1989. Although still active, officials in Independence waived the requirement to be retired for five years prior to being inducted into the track’s Hall of Fame. He was a popular inductee during the annual ceremony earlier this summer. Services are pending.

Teenager Baldwin Wins Kevin Huntley Memorial in Thriller at Bloomington

By Pat Sullivan BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Sept. 5, 2025) — With a top prize of $10,000 up for grabs, the Kevin Huntley Memorial at Indiana’s Bloomington Speedway is, by definition, one of the most prestigious races on the RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car calendar. Yet, the significance of the event goes well beyond the hefty purse. Huntley, known in the racing world as “The Pup,” cut his teeth at Bloomington Speedway, where he was the track champion in 1986. The 4th annual Kevin Huntley Memorial was the most highly anticipated edition of the annual race to date. With Mother Nature interceding in July, the tilt was pushed back to Sept. 5, when 37 cars signed in, representing eight different states and the United Kingdom. Rod Henning and Whit Gastineau occupied the front row of the 30-lap feature, with Dillan Baldwin and Ashton Thompson next in line. Henning got the jump when the green flag fell and built a comfortable margin in the opening stages of the race, with Gastineau in hot pursuit. Henning later headed to the work [Read More]
