Olson Holds On and Starry Outduels Shryock in Stock Car Qualifiers

By Ben Deatherage BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 9, 2026) — Kyle Olson survived a caution-filled opener, while Cameron Starry held off a hard-charging Kelly Shryock to win the first two Sunoco IMCA Stock Car qualifiers at the Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Two 25-lap qualifiers set the inside lane for Saturday’s Big Dance, with the top four finishers from each locking themselves into the championship event. B.J. Wild, aboard the Dwayne Klein-owned No. 22K, grabbed the early advantage in the first qualifier before a red flag stopped the action on the opening circuit. When racing resumed, Wild, the two-time defending IMCA Wild West Speedweek champion, battled Olson for the lead, with Olson edging him at the line to officially lead lap one. Olson established himself out front before the first caution came on lap four. Devin Smith, a two-time Super Nationals winner and two-time Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock National champion, tried to challenge Olson, but the leader kept him behind. Another caution came on lap seven, followed by a multi-car incident on the ensuing [Read More]

Mallicoat Holds Off Thornton and Laney Charges to Modified Qualifier Wins

By Ben Deatherage BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 9, 2026) — Izac Mallicoat withstood repeated challenges from Dylan Thornton, while Cody Laney charged from 13th and made a late move to win as Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified qualifying got underway at the Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Two 25-lap qualifiers set the inside lane for Saturday’s Big Dance, with the top four finishers in each earning locked-in starting spots. Kansas’ Ryan Richeimer led the opening circuit of the first qualifier before a caution came out on lap two. Mallicoat took advantage when racing resumed, moving to the point on lap three and beginning to distance himself from the field. Thornton moved into second on lap seven. The three-division Super Nationals winner and 2026 IMCA TV Winter Nationals champion began trying to erase Mallicoat’s advantage before a caution on lap 10. Mallicoat was strong on the restart, and another caution came on lap 14. Thornton stayed with the leader when racing resumed but was not quite in position to make a move. A lap 20 caution [Read More]

Smith Dominates and Stanton Goes Flag-to-Flag in Hobby Stock Qualifiers

By Ben Deatherage BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 9, 2026) — Will Smith dominated the middle-lane qualifier, while Eric Stanton controlled the outside-lane contest as the second round of Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock qualifying was completed at the Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s on Wednesday. The two 25-lap qualifiers were originally scheduled for Tuesday but were pushed back by weather. The top eight finishers from each earned starting spots in Saturday’s Big Dance. 2019 track champion Aaron Rudolph led the opening lap before the first caution appeared with one circuit complete. Rudolph pulled away when racing resumed, but another caution on lap three brought the field back together. Smith made his move on lap five, taking command before another yellow two circuits later. The Lake City, Iowa, driver remained strong out front and reached the tail of the field on lap 11. Cautions on laps 18 and 20 erased Smith’s advantage, but neither restart slowed his charge. Smith, who started sixth, controlled the closing circuits to secure the victory and the pole position in the [Read More]
