DUBUQUE, Iowa (May 6) – Sunday’s Merfeld Brothers Auto IMCA Modifieds feature at Dubuque Speedway was another nail biter as several drivers took their turns at the front.
Bryce Garnhart battled with Austin Moyer for much of the 20-lap main event before crossing under the checkers ahead of Moyer. Last week’s winner Jason Schueller turned in another fine run in taking third.
Defending IMCA national champion Tyler Soppe scored the feature win in the 18-lap GSI Collision Specialists Northern Sportmod main event.
Soppe fought to the front from a fourth row start to score the win ahead of early leader Justin Becker. Scott Busch followed up last week’s win with a third place finish.
By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 17) – Sunday night racing action returned to the high-banked 3/8-mile dirt track on the Dubuque County Fairgrounds on Fan Appreciation Night. The final feature of the night was the Merfeld Brothers Auto IMCA Modified event. Austin Moyer shot to the front from his second row start, immediately took to the high side of the track and went on fight off the constant challenges from Matt Gansen to score the win in the 20-lapper. Moyer took the checkers a couple of car lengths ahead of Gansen. Mark Schulte made a late-race charge to take third. The Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature was in doubt right to the checkers as Jason Roth was able to overcome K.C. Ansel on the last corner of the 18-lap event and nip Ansel by a few feet for the win. Jerry Miles ran third. DUBUQUE, Iowa – Extra money is on the line for the winner of Sunday’s main event for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at Dubuque Speedway. The fourth $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus of the season will be paid to the June 6 Late Model winner in Dubuque. Sunoco bonuses will be presented at Late Model sanctioned tracks again this year. Drivers are eligible for one bonus during the 2021 racing season. Winners so far this year are Matt Ryan at 300 Raceway in Farley, followed by Sean Johnson at Independence Motor Speedway and Andy Eckrich last Saturday night at 34 Raceway in West Burlington. IMCA will announce mid-week before the dates bonuses are to be awarded at each track. The grandstand opens at 4 p.m. and general admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 65 and over, $6 for students 13-17, and 12 and under get in free with a paid adult. Racing is set to get underway following 6 p.m. hot laps.
DUBUQUE, Iowa – A $1,000 to win, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event for IMCA Modifieds is now scheduled this Sunday at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway. IMCA Sunoco Late Models, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are also on the July 4 ticket and all divisions will be draw/redraw. The Fast-Shafts qualifying event for Modifieds was rained out and rescheduled from last Sunday. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. with racing to follow. Pit passes are $30 or $15 for kids ages 7-13 and free for six and under. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors ages 65 and up, $6 for student ages 13-17 and free for kids 12 and under accompanying a paid adult. Fair races on July 28 and Aug. 1 also pay the Modifieds $1,000 to win.
