Ward tops Modified main at Harken Memorial
By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 25) – Tim Ward was the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified winner at Saturday’s Gary Harken Memorial, when Kossuth County Speedway honored a long-time track employee who passed away earlier this year. One of the highlights of the evening came as Harken’s grandson Alex Christensen of Nevada, Mo., displayed the American flag around the track during the national anthem and led the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for their parade lap. Ward held off Tad Reutzel, Mike Jergens and Jesse Hoeft for his third local win of the summer. Hoeft used a late-race pass of Reutzel to place second with Reutzel third. Kevin Opheim rocketed from 10th starting to the front spot just five laps into the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature and he held onto the lead the rest of the way. Calvin Lange and Andy Altenburg rounded out the top three.
