Droste takes IMCA Modified Madness cash at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 22) – The IMCA Modified Madness 50 was the big show Friday night at Davenport Speedway. When the checkered flag fell, the spotlight was on Tyler Droste. Making his first visit to Davenport with an IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified, Droste topped the $2,000 to win feature after swapping the lead and a little paint with Milo Veloz. “There were a lot of good cars here and a lot of very good drivers in the feature,” said Droste. “It helped having been here once before this year (in a Late Model) because every track is just a little bit different.” The main event started with 2012 race winner Veloz on the pole. Reeser picks up PASS win at Williams Grove

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (May 22) – Tyler Reeser picked up his first-ever Williams Grove Pennsylvania Sprint Series win Friday night, in a race complete with three-wide action for the lead. The IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car feature took several tries to get started as first-lap incidents slowed competition. Reeser took the lead following one of those restarts. Reeser then took the lead and was in command as Zach Newlin and 10th starting Daren Miller closed in. The trio was in a close race when the rookie Miller took the lead from Newlin and Reeser. The race ended as it began with several restarts and as tires wore down. Miller was unable to dominate and Reeser again took the lead. MORTON GROVE, Ill. (May 22) – IMCA Modified special events competitors receive new awards this season from a company many of them are already familiar with. Strange Oval has signed on to give $50 in cash and $50 product certificates to designated top five finishers at 30 Modified specials in 2015. The Morton Grove, Ill., manufacturer makes axles and drive plates and is a division of Strange Engineering. Awards are mailed from the IMCA home office the week after official race results are received. “A lot of the drivers who participate in these events are most likely already using our products,” noted Strange Oval President Jim Kontje, who worked nearly 30 IMCA events last year and expects to do the same this season. “This program is one of the best ways to give back to the racer and IMCA is the only sanctioning group we’re involved with at present.” Strange Engineering entered the drag racing market in the mid-1960s. Racing returns tonight to Salina Speedway

With only one race in the books so far, on May 1, Mother Nature has prevailed each of the last two weekends. Anticipation from race fans and race teams have prompted track officials to do everything in their power to get people back on track as the season hopes to now set in full swing. Six divisions will be in action tonight: BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Late Models, 1st Class Chassis IMCA Modifieds, Coors Light IMCA Stock Cars, Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods, Auto House Mod Lites, and Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stocks. Deery Series is bound for Boone on Memorial Day

BOONE, Iowa – Still looking for a repeat winner this season, the Deery Brothers Summer Series travels to Boone Speedway for its traditional Memorial Day show next Monday, May 25. Corey Zeitner, defending champion Justin Kay, Joel Callahan and seven-time IMCA Late Model tour champ Jeff Aikey each have single series wins so far. MASON CITY, Iowa – A very busy Memorial Holiday Weekend at I-35 Speedway concludes with the second installment of the IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds travel to Mason City to race for $1,000 to win and a minimum of $150 to start their Monday, May 25 main event.
