Whitman wards off LaCrosse at Luxemburg

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis. (July 29) – Two of the area’s best duked it out for the $600 top prize in Friday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway. At the end of 20 laps it was Johnny Whitman outdueling Benji LaCrosse for the pay day. Whitman grabbed the top spot at the start and flew away from the field while LaCrosse and Jeremy Jacobs came to second and third from their mid-pack starting positions.  A caution on lap five was the only break in the action. On the restart, Whitman stayed out front but had LaCrosse challenging immediately.  Over the final 15 laps, LaCrosse tried every possible line around the 1/3-mile to get around Whitman. LaCrosse prepared to make one final move but contact with the wall coming to the white flag ended his chances at the win. Whitman was held up briefly on the final lap by a lapped car but still led LaCrosse past the line for his first win of the season. Jacobs finished third with Brad Lautenbach [Read More]

Deery Bros Late Model Summer Series

Aikey holds off Bruening, scores Deery Series win in Des Moines

By Ryan Clark DES MOINES, Iowa (July 29) – To say Jeff Aikey had to work for his Friday win at the Iowa State Fair Speedway would be an understatement. The current point leader in the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models rolled off from the pole but was pressured throughout most of the 40-lapper by Tyler Bruening. Aikey, also the 2016 track champion in Des Moines, led the field through a pair of early cautions on laps three and nine, the only two stoppages of the event. Bruening, who started outside of row three, took advantage of the lap nine restart and stole second from Matt Ryan before running down the race leader. The lead pair built a near straightaway lead over the field while they battled for the top spot. Bruening remained within a couple car lengths throughout the rest of the first half of the event and pulled alongside Aikey when they encountered slower traffic just shy of midway. Although Bruening drew even on numerous occasions, Aikey held him at [Read More]

Droste, Moyer top Dubuque County Fair races

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (July 27) – Night two of the 63rd annual Dubuque County Fair included a night of spectacular stock car racing for the Julien Dubuque Classic. Five classes of cars were on the track being headlined by the Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models. The 35-lap main event saw Tyler Droste continue his recent dominance of the 3/8-mile Dubuque Speedway. Droste led every lap but the race win was in doubt right to the checkered flag. Tyler Bruening caught Droste as the front runners worked through lapped traffic. Bruening was able to draw even with Droste on several occasions but Droste prevailed for a car length win. Justin Kay took third ahead of Charlie McKenna. The Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modified feature was another hotly contested battle as rookie Austin Moyer took a hard-fought win over Kay. Kay was able to get by Moyer several times but Moyer was not rattled and held for an impressive win. Kay crossed under the checkers a very close second ahead of Jeremiah Hurst. The [Read More]
