
Karl Chevrolet founder Carl Moyer passes at 83
ANKENY, Iowa (Sept. 28, 2024) – Carl Moyer, founder of Karl Chevrolet and a long-time supporter of IMCA, IMCA race tracks and IMCA racers, passed away Saturday at the age of 83. Funeral arrangements are pending. Survivors include his wife, Penny, sons Brad and Bret and daughter Pam. The Des Moines native worked at dealerships in Cedar Falls, Winterset and West Des Moines before starting his own in Ankeny. Moyer bought out his brother to start Karl Chevrolet, then a one-car showroom in Ankeny, in 1978. While hard work, a knack for marketing and making the customer “Your dealer for life” have kept the dealership in the top three percent of Chevrolet dealers since, Moyer is also remembered as a huge advocate of Ankeny and every community he had a dealership in. Karl Chevrolet also holds the record for being named the top certified used car dealership in General Motors 13 times.
