Leiting soars at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 1) – Mark Leiting raced all the way from 18th starting to win the NAPA IMCA Northern SportMod main event Saturday at Eagle Raceway. The win was his fourth this season and second in 2015 at Eagle. “My guys worked really hard getting me going after getting that axle bent,” he said. “Not transferring out of my heat and having to come through the ‘B’ meant that we had a lot of work to do, but the win makes it all worthwhile.” Trevor Grossenbacher rocketed from 14th on the initial start to win the RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car main. Chad Fegley’s second straight Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock feature win came from 11th starting. Shane Hiatt caught long-time leader Kevin Larkins on the final set of turns for the Kaplan University IMCA Modified checkers, his fourth at Eagle this season. Mashl dominates Hall of Fame Night feature

By Tom Wagner LUXEMBURG, Wis. (July 31) – Friday was Hall of Fame night at Luxemburg Speedway and perfect night for one of the track’s stars of the past to shine again. Mike Mashl, a Luxemburg Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified champion nearly two decades ago, powered away to his first feature win of the season on a night that included the induction of three new members into the Speedway’s Hall of Fame. When he ran the circuits full time, Mashl was one of the top IMCA Modified competitors in the area, with a resume that included the 1997 Luxemburg championship.  Back behind the wheel on a limited basis now, he was making only his second run at Luxemburg this season. The early feature pace was set by a guy working on his fourth decade of competition, Dave Zeitler, who led the first two laps before a slip high on the second turn of the third lap allowed Mashl to shoot by on the low line and take command. For the most part, that was [Read More]

Crowell dominates, Ferguson wins first

ANTIOCH, Calif. (Aug. 1) – Aaron Crowell dominated the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified class, winning both his qualifying race and the main event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. The 2004 champion was untouchable as he blasted into an early lead and never looked back. Crowell’s family and friends work on and sponsor his car. When his engine started going bad a couple of weeks ago, they feared the season would end early. Earlier in the week, Crowell borrowed an engine from Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod racer Fred Ryland. “I was just trying the engine out, and the thing ran like a top,” Crowell said in victory lane. “I’ve got to see if I can keep it.” Terry Kaiser finished second with Nick Viscusi III chasing him across the finish line. Jason Ferguson took his first-ever win in the Northern SportMod division. Ferguson, 20, began racing when he was seven years old. He’s raced in karts and stock cars – never winning. “It’s my first win ever, in any kind of car at any race track, [Read More]

By Randy Pospishil NORFOLK, Neb. (Aug. 1) – Hometown driver Gage Koch earned his first feature victory in three years of participating in the competitive IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division Saturday at Off Road Speedway. Koch began the race with the outside front row position and immediately moved to the lead, with Cameron Wilkinson in pursuit. Surviving three restarts that closed the field behind him, including the last one with five laps to go which involved Wilkinson’s spin, and placed two different cars on his rear bumper, Koch faced a final challenge for the lead. Jim Kimmel and Tejay Mielke were in a heated battle for second before Mielke passed Kimmel on the low side coming out of turn two with two laps remaining. Koch was able to deny Mielke’s attempts to pass on the inside to secure his win. “I didn’t know how far ahead I was but the restarts kept coming and I just concerned myself with staying in the lead,” Koch said. “I tried to run down low, but I couldn’t keep [Read More]
