First-time Hancock County competitor takes Night of 1,000 Stars IMCA Modified win

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 6) – Tripp Gaylord’s latest first-time track visit led him to victory lane at Hancock County Speedway. Gaylord raced from 10th starting to win Friday’s IMCA Modified Night of 1,000 Stars main event, and $3,000, at Hancock County Speedway. “This was our first time at Britt. Every IMCA Speedweek track is new to us,” the Colorado driver said. “It’s always nice to win the first time you race somewhere. We know that whenever we travel out of town we have to be at the top of our game.” Jeremy Mills led early in the 50-lapper before Kollin Hibdon ran him down. That pair battled for the lead before the charging Gaylord entered the fray. They ran three-wide for the lead for several laps with Gaylord in charge at the midway break. Strategy pays off for Denning with Durbin Memorial win

Denning got the hole shot from his P3 start, had the lead before the first circuit was completed and ended up cruising to the 30-lap Greg Durbin Memorial main event for IMCA Modifieds Sunday evening at East Moline Speedway. The second annual event was held to celebrate the late member of the prominent Durbin racing family and driver of the No. 8 Modified. Already Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible, Denning gathered $2,008 for the victory out of the nearly $8,000 up for grabs. The Sterling, Ill., hotshoe saw a straightaway advantage vanish on Lap 11 when one of the only three cautions flew. IMCA Speedweek success for Shryock at friendly confines of Kossuth County

ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 5) – The track where Kelly Shryock earned his 500th career feature win became the site of his first IMCA Speedweek victory. Shryock checked out on his IMCA Modified foes Thursday evening, taking the $2,100 checkers at Kossuth County Speedway. “We’ve been working pretty hard and everything has fallen into place for us at the right time,” Shryock said. “We have a had a good car on the flatter tracks. It’s been a great season for us.” He’d started fourth and drove by Nick Meyer and Zane DeVilbiss for the lead early in the 20-lap Denny Hovinga/Gary Harken Memorial main event at Algona. Never seriously challenged, Shryock won ahead of Jeremy Mills. Big payday for Beckendorf at Sibley County Fair Shootout

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 4) – Brandon Beckendorf picked up the win in his first time ever competing in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature during the Sibley County Fair Shootout special Wednesday night. Beckendorf earned $2,500 for his checkered flag finish plus $2,415 for leading 15 laps, making for a $4,915 payday. Thirty-seven Stock Cars signed in for the Arlington Raceway midweek special and Dean Cornelius and Chanse Hollatz drew front row starts. Both had their work cut out as there was a stout field cars behind them. Hollatz and Cornelius swapped the lead over the first four laps before Cornelius settled into the front spot. JEFFERSON, S.D. – The eighth annual running of the IMCA Iron Cup at Park Jefferson Speedway is coming on Aug. 9-10. One of the crown jewels of racing in Siouxland, the pursuit for coveted Iron Cups brings very fierce competition to Park Jefferson Speedway. Monday, Aug. 9 will feature the preliminary night of action as IMCA Modifieds run a format that mirrors the Marshalltown Speedway World Nationals. Drivers will compete in a pair of rounds of heat races to lock the top drivers in points into the “A” feature.
