Moyer cruises to $2,000 SportMod Challenge win

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 13) – Austin Moyer took home the $2,000 top prize in Friday’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Challenge at Davenport Speedway. Moyer led 41 of the 50 laps en route to the highest-paying victory of his career. He started fifth and took the lead from Greg Wichman on lap ten. Once in front, Moyer’s only serious challenge came from Dan Mohr, who three-wheeled his racecar around the high side the entire race. “It was a long race and I was glad when it was over,” admitted Moyer. “I couldn’t have been any happier.” Mohr had to settle for second, six car lengths off the pace, with Carter VanDenBerg a distant third. Humphries gains late lead, Sprint Series win at Shenandoah

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (June 14) – The wait was worth it Saturday night for Tom Humphries. Humphries got his second Virginia Sprint Series win of the season Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway. Tony Harris had the lead for much of the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car headliner, pulling off with tire issues after relinquishing the point in the late going. Charlie Ware led to lap three when Tony Harris powered his way to the front and took off with Humphries, Brian Lawson and Jerald Harris all chasing. Tony Harris stayed strong before a caution waved for debris at halfway. Humphries got by and Harris slowed with a tire problem, then headed for the pits. Jerald Harris caught Lawson for second and took up the chase but by now it was too little too late as Humphries held on for the win. Dart hits milestone with 50th IMCA Modified win at Thunderhill

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. (June 14) – Todd Dart reigned supreme with his third IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature win of the season Saturday at Thunderhill Raceway. One of Thunderhill’s most decorated racers added another milestone to his storied career. Early on it was Tyler Hackett pacing the field from his front row starting spot. Hackett battled mechanical gremlins the first month of the season and traced the problem to a crushed float in the carburetor. Now running up to snuff, he worked the low groove with Dart and James Tebon giving chase. Dart enjoyed the virtue of another great racing surface has he hammered the cushion, reeling in and passing Hackett before midway. Tebon worked to the runner-up spot but was never able to challenge.Dart cruised to his 50th IMCA Modified victory at Thunderhill in front of a roaring crowd. Jerovetz finds IMCA Modified redemption at 141

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 14) – On Friday night, Troy Jerovetz led at the white flag and spun. Saturday night he redeemed himself by earning the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature win. Mike Joski and Troy Jerovetz started on the front row and for the majority of the race they stayed the top two. Joski led the opening four laps before it was General time. Jerovetz rode around the top of the track and into the lead on lap five. He built up a straightaway lead by halfway. Shawn Kilgore had forward bite all night as he worked his way to the front after starting 11th. Unfortunately for Kilgore the race went caution-free and Jerovetz had already checked out from the field. Lauritzen, Irvine, Gustin get fourth wins of season at Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 14) – A trio of drivers each earned their fourth wins of the season during the seventh night of weekly points racing Saturday at Independence Motor Speedway. Another pair of drivers became the first to repeat in their respective divisions. Ronn Lauritzen, Benji Irvine and Jenae Gustin made their fourth trips to the winner’s circle while Darren Ackerman and Paul Shepherd were the first to repeat in IMCA Late Model and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car action. Ed Thomas held the lead at the drop of the green in the 20-lap Performance Bodies IMCA Modified main. Thomas pulled away from traffic while Lauritzen ran the high groove from a fourth row starting spot. Lauritzen settled into third place behind J.D. Auringer just before the caution flag waved on lap six. On the restart, Lauritzen wasted little time working past the front-runners as he assumed command by the completion of lap seven. Knoell earns second straight Salina checkers

By Larry Lowrey Jr. SALINA, Kan. (June 13) – It has been a few races since Brian Knoell ripped off two straight wins in the Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Modified ranks at Salina Speedway. After Friday night it appears that Knoell is back up on his “A” game. Joe Caldwell and Randy Wilson brought the field to green but it wasn’t long before a battle that started in an early heat race between Knoell and Corey Lagroon carried over into the feature. Both Knoell and Lagroon worked their way up to the front where Knoell reversed the finish from the heat race and took the top spot in the feature for his third win of the season. It’s the most wins by one driver in the division this year. Mike Petersilie gave the fans a show by finishing third after starting 16th. Mahlik is in right place at right time at Luxemburg Speedway

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis. (June 13) – A win is a win anyway a driver can capture it. Eric Mahlik said that Friday night following the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway. Mahlik won after the leader spun out on the white flag lap. Kyle Kudick used the top of the track to fend off the competition early. Mahlik grabbed the lead only to see the caution make it a no-go. When racing resumed and after a couple more cautions, Mahlik and Troy Jerovetz split Kudick for the lead. Mahlik used the top of the track to lead at the line with Jerovetz charging in second. Jerovetz fell back for a few laps until his momentum came back and he took the lead with three laps remaining. Jerovetz lead with Mahlik outside as he took the white flag. Wild West Challenge special is June 17 at Lincoln County Raceway

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – The inaugural Conner and Colten Gentry Memorial for Mach-1 Sport Compacts tops the program for Lincoln County Raceway’s second annual Buffalo Bill Wild West Challenge on Tuesday, June 17. The winner’s share is $200 of the $2,000 Sport Compact purse. That feature pays $50 to start. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods both race for $700 to win and a minimum of $100 to start. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks chase a top prize of $425 with a minimum of $90 paid to take the initial green flag. An $11,000 purse will be paid regardless of car count and IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded. Smith races to first Modified win at Oshkosh

Smith will argue any inference of full moon racing couple with a Friday the 13th after winning his career first Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified feature at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. Smith grabbed the lead at the start with Jim Rhode Ed Lemay, Eric Arneson, Jeremy Christians and Travis Spaulding close behind. Several early cautions kept the field bunched but Smith was able to maintain to lead through a green flag run from laps four to 10. Christains moved into the runner-up spot on lap six with Mike Wedelstadt and Eddie Muenter moving into the top five by lap seven. With the field right behind for the restart, Smith again set the pace and opened a car length lead over Christians as Muenster, Rhode and Wedelstadt moved up to challenge for second.
