Noteboom, Zeitner score Modified gold at Park Jefferson’s Iron Cup

JEFFERSON, S.D. (Sept. 17-18) – Jay Noteboom returned to a track he’s raced at for 20-plus years to win the Iron Cup opening night Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature and $1,000. Justin Zeitner returned from his honeymoon to win the second night show and $1,000 of his own at Park Jefferson Speedway. Both drivers earned spots on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with their victories. Noteboom started third in Saturday’s 20-lapper, passed Travis Hatcher for the lead and held onto the front spot following a late restart, beating Chris Abelson to the line by a couple car lengths. “The car was pretty good. Siskiyou hosting Sept. 24 Restad IMCA Modified Memorial

YREKA, Calif. – Siskiyou Motor Speedway’s Saturday, Sept. 24 Rod Restad Memorial boasts a $3,000 check for the winner of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event. The Restad Memorial is a qualifier for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. The runner-up earns $2,000 with $1,000 paid for third. The $100 entry fee includes car and driver. All applicable IMCA points will be awarded. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are also on the program. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and veterans, $7 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $35. Five IMCA divisions on Saturday card for Jackson Nationals

JACKSON, Minn. – A full Saturday of racing sees five IMCA divisions take their turn on the track at the Jackson Motorplex IMCA Nationals Doug Cellan Memorial. Gates open at 9 a.m. and hot laps begin at 1 p.m. Sept. 24 at Jackson. Complete shows for Mach-1 Sport Compacts and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks precede qualifying for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. The track will be reworked at approximately 5 p.m. and hot laps are at 7 p.m., followed by Northern SportMod and Stock Car features, then a complete show for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. Modifieds, Stock Cars and Northern SportMods all race for top prizes of $2,000. The Hobby Stock feature pays $1,600 to win and the Sport Compact feature $750. Princeton’s Western Showdown features four IMCA divisions

PRINCETON, Minn. – Four IMCA sanctioned divisions run at Princeton Speedway’s Western Showdown special this weekend. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified features on Friday, Sept. 23 and Saturday, Sept. 24 pay $1,000 to win, a minimum of $100 to start and are Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods run for $500 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $125 to win both nights. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Allstar Performance points, but no local track points, will be awarded at the fourth annual special. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. both days. DeYoung delivers career fifth win at Crystal’s Great Lakes Nationals

CRYSTAL, Mich. (Sept. 18) – The pre-race strategy Myron DeYoung laid out for Sunday’s 50-lap main event at Crystal Motor Speedway paid off with his career fifth Great Lakes Nationals victory and a $3,000 share of the purse. DeYoung caught race-long leader Jeff Kohn with just two laps left to win the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified headline event. “It was great. The last couple years we were leading and had mechanical difficulty,” said DeYoung. “This year I saved my tires and put myself in a position to win. I told my son Brenten the same thing and he ended up third.” Kohn was runner-up while Gary VanderMark was fourth and Joe Fowler fifth. “B” feature winner Heath Grizzle started 18th and finished sixth. Harris tops Skyline field for career first Atomicwraps.com IMCA Empire State win

CORTLAND, N.Y. (Sept. 17) – Skyline Raceway Park’s Turbo Blue Classic Weekend saw a first-time Atomicwraps.com IMCA Empire State Series winner in Tony Harris. Harris drew the pole for the 25-lap $400 to win feature for touring Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds and led every circuit, leaving the rest of the 18-car field to tussle for second. Jeff Cardinale and Bumps Scutt battled hard for the runner-up position with Cardinale managing to keep Scutt behind him to record a season’s-best second place showing. 2016 IMCA point season ends Sunday, Sept. 25

VINTON, Iowa – The 2016 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season ends this Sunday, Sept. 25. Final races are scheduled that day for Modifieds, Sprint Cars, Stock Cars, Northern SportMods, Southern SportMods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts. Bonus points will be figured and national and regional champions and rookies of the year announced as soon as possible. Local track officials have until noon Central Standard Time on Monday, Oct. 24 to notify IMCA of corrections that affect their top 15 point standings before all standings for those divisions become official. Cordes collects September Spectacular checkers at Independence

By Ryan Clark INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (Sept. 17) – Troy Cordes topped a field of 35 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds to take the win in the Albert Auto September Spectacular at Independence Motor Speedway. The victory earned Cordes $1,000 and a spot on the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. From his second row start, Cordes took the lead on the first lap and then quickly pulled away from traffic. He led the entire 25-lap distance on his way to the win ahead of Darin Duffy and Kaleb Bentley. In just his third night behind the wheel of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car he bought from regular season champion Tom Schmitt, Cole Mather beat Schmitt to the checkers for his second career win in the division. BEATRICE, Neb. – The final checkers of 2016 fly at Beatrice Speedway this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23 and 24. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified features are on September Fest programs both nights in $1,500 to win, minimum $125 to start qualifying events for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Welshonse wins IMCA Modified main at Southern Oregon

(Sept. 17) – James Welshonse took advantage of a late race mishap to get the victory in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event Saturday at Southern Oregon Speedway. It was the first career win for Welshonse, who was running right behind leader Scott Lenz and Mauge Wauge on lap 19 when the two cars got together, leaving Wauge stuck in turn two for the yellow flag. Also the winner of his heat and the trophy dash earlier in the evening, Welshonse overtook Lenz on the restart and went on to victory ahead of Jesse Bailey. Lenz was third. Dwayne Melvin won the 20-lap Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. Melvin was enjoying a good battle with Rich McCoy during the first half of the race before a stalled car came into play. McCoy made contact with the car to end his race. Melvin led the rest of the way to win ahead of David Marble and Mike Medel.
