Sitton Classic RaceSaver Sprint win has Fifield smiling

GREENVILLE, Texas (March 2, 2024) – Justin Fifield was all smiles Saturday night, and not just because he’d won the top-paying event of his IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car career. Fifield led start to finish of the Smiley Sitton Classic at Hunt County Raceway, outrunning a star-filled field for a $3,000 payday. “Our car was just really good. I’m glad we got the win,” said Fifield, who had collected $400 along with the pole shuffle checkers earlier in the program. “I go up and pick Smiley’s brain quite often. It means a lot to me that we could go there and win.” Kevin Ramey raced from ninth to second. Cody Price, Whit Gastineau and hard charger Chad Wilson … he motored to fifth from 20thstarting … were next across the stripe. Two cautions slowed the early going. Fifield caught up with the back of the pack around seven and ran in and around traffic to the end. “It was really a top dominant track. I tried to get as many lapped cars between myself and second [Read More]

Texas Grand win is career seventh for Babbitt

CLEVELAND, Texas (March 2, 2024) – The Texas Grand has been a racing tradition for nearly three decades and Corey Babbitt has made a tradition of winning the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lite at the 105 Motor Speedway special. The New Caney driver led all but the first of 30 laps Saturday night in earning his career seventh Texas Grand crown and $1,500. “We had two grooves to race on. They dropped the green and we took off,” said Babbitt, who negotiated heavy lapped traffic and then put some distance on the rest of the field in a green, white, checkered finish. Babbitt’s Texas Grand success includes a streak of three straight at Cleveland and one prior title driving for himself. Johnny Brown Jr., 12th starting Taylor Hunter, 14th starting Joseph McIntyre and Christopher Buxton completed the top five. Hard charger James Rollins started 18th and finished sixth. “To win seven of these is awesome. I’ve tried to win this race in a Modified but it always seemed like something happened,” Babbitt said. “I’ve been pretty luck [Read More]

Hibdon makes it three straight at Mohave Valley

MOHAVE VALLEY, Ariz. (March 2, 2024) – There’s just something about Mohave Valley Raceway that suits Kollin Hibdon’s racing style. He’s just not sure what. Hibdon won for the third time in as many Mohave Valley starts this season, topping Saturday’s $2,000 to win Bill and Shirley Meyer Showdown feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds. “I don’t know why we’ve been so good here,” he admitted afterwards. “I’ve probably only raced at Mohave Valley a couple times before and I think I finished second both times. Now I’ve won three in a row.” Those first two wins came on back-to-back nights, in Arizona IMCA Tour shows Feb. 16 and 17. Win number six on the young season came at the end of a caution-slowed 25-lapper and ahead of 10th starting Troy Morris III. “I saw Troy try to poke his nose in a couple times,” said Hibdon, “but we didn’t run in a lot of lapped traffic and I was able to pull away a little.” Brady Gladd, 11th starting Donald Houghton and Cameron Williams ran 3-4-5. Mallicoat ends Florida roller coaster ride with IMCA Modified Clash on the Coast checkers

MILTON, Fla. (March 2, 2024) – His Florida roller coaster ride saw Izac Mallicoat end the IMCA Clash on the Coast on top. The 17-year-old speedster from Boone, Iowa, stayed close to leader Trevor Fitz the first 19 times around the track in the Saturday finale for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds at Southern Raceway, and took over up front after Fitz fell off power on a restart. Mallicoat then outran Benji LaCrosse, Ethan Braaksma, speedweek champion Jeff Larson and Tanner Barnhart to the $1,000 checkers. “We have struggled with consistency but the whole week, we knew we had a fast car. We just didn’t know it would be this good,” said Mallicoat, who became eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational aboard a new Brand X ride. “This was a big confidence booster before we start racing around home.” Mallicoat ran fourth in his opening night ‘B’ and exited early from the night two feature at Northwest Florida Speedway, then was kayoed by a flat tire early in his ‘B’ Thursday at Milton. MILTON, Fla. (Feb. 29, 2024) – Mitchell O’Patik and Dallon Murty both talked about luck during their post-race interviews Thursday night at Southern Raceway. Truth is that both made their own luck on night three of the IMCA Clash on the Coast. O’Patik led the distance of the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at Milton, outrunning hometown speedster Joseph Joiner for the $1,000 win and earning Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility. “I had a good feeling on the night. I drew 11, went out for my heat race and saw there were some heavy hitters in the back,” he said. “I was like ‘Man, it’s pretty stacked, I’d better go,’ and I did that.” A Colorado native and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod winner early in his racing career there, O’Patik attended college in Ohio and now works for Meyer Shank Racing in Pataskala. His Thursday start was just his third in a 2020 Rage Chassis. The win came just a car length ahead of Joiner, with Shane Stephens, Joel Rust and Jadin Fuller [Read More]

Fitz tops next level competition for IMCA Modified Clash on the Coast win

BAKER, Fla. (Feb. 27, 2024) – Trevor Fitz made the move to the Midwest from his native California looking to race with and win against next level Friesen Performance IMCA Modified competition. He did just that Tuesday, in Florida. The transplant to Marshalltown, Iowa, won the night two installment of Clash on the Coast at Northwest Florida Speedway, earning $1,000 and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility. Fitz chased leader Tanner Barnhart into what quickly became lapped traffic. He was in the right place at the right time, running second when Barnhart couldn’t avoid hitting a spun car and the resulting chaos on lap 12. Fitz inherited the point, lead the pack after another restart on lap 13, then held off opening night winner Jeff Larson as the race stayed green the last 12 circuits. “I was hoping for lapped traffic but when I got it, I messed up,” said Fitz, who more than had his hands full with Larson. “I ran for my life. I knew he was back there and I saw his [Read More]
