ALGONA, Iowa (May 28, 2026) — It was a night the Simpson family won’t soon forget at Kossuth County Speedway.
Thirteen-year-old Ryan Simpson celebrated his first career feature victory in one of the track’s local divisions, and later in the evening father Jake added a Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMod feature win to complete a memorable family double.
With Ryan already in victory lane, the spotlight shifted to Jake in the Northern SportMod feature. The Algona driver answered the challenge in impressive fashion.
Drew Fett led the opening laps before cautions on consecutive circuits slowed the action. Following the second restart, Simpson powered past Fett and took command.
Starting third, Simpson maintained the lead over the final eight laps to score his second victory of the season, with both wins coming at Kossuth County Speedway.
Josh Appel finished second while Grant Kramer completed the podium in third. Charlie Stevens charged from ninth to fourth and Alec Fett rallied from 11th to fifth.
Swearingen Wins Stock Car Thriller for Second Straight Week
The Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars produced arguably the most exciting race of the night.
Troy Swearingen looked to make it back-to-back victories and grabbed the early lead. Several cautions slowed the action, but each restart tightened the field and set up thrilling battles behind the Thompson driver.
As Swearingen built a comfortable advantage, an entertaining fight for second developed between Colby Fett, Kelly Shryock, and Karter Evans. Despite the pressure, Swearingen held his ground and raced to his second consecutive victory at Kossuth County Speedway.
The win was his second EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region triumph of the season.
Fett charged from seventh to finish second while point leader Shryock advanced from 10th to third. Evans finished fourth and McCain Jennings completed the top five. Ryan Roath turned in a notable run from 12th to sixth.
Mills Holds Off Baca for Modified Victory
The Karl Kustoms IMCA Modifieds took the green flag with Brayden Claborn leading the opening lap before Jeremy Mills took command on lap two.
The Clear Lake driver built a comfortable advantage near the halfway mark, but Chaz Baca Jr. steadily reeled him in during the closing laps.
Baca made things interesting over the final five circuits, but Mills remained composed and secured his 95th career feature victory at Kossuth County Speedway.
The win was Mills’ fourth of the season, third in Razor Chassis North Central Region competition, and first at Algona in 2026.
Baca advanced from seventh to second while Matthew Looft finished third. Nick Meyer crossed the stripe fourth and Colby Fett completed the top five.
Jahnz Charges from 10th for Hobby Stock Victory
The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks once again drew the night’s largest field with 23 entries.
Jaxon Daniels grabbed the early lead before Derrick Barglof took over on lap two. Austin Jahnz steadily worked his way through traffic and eventually surged to the front.
Starting 10th, the Lewisville, Minnesota driver held off Bryce Sommerfeld over the final laps to collect his fifth victory of the season and second in the B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region.
Sommerfeld finished second while Chris Krug advanced from ninth to third. Point leader Dan Hanselman delivered one of the night’s best drives, charging from 16th to fourth. Daniels rounded out the top five.

The RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Cars made their second appearance of the season at Algona.
Logan Moore started on the pole and led all 15 laps of the caution-free feature to score his second victory of the season at his second different track.
The Des Moines driver crossed the finish line ahead of Lainey Moore, Jake Greenwood, Andrew Sullivan, and Jeff Wilke.
