New Abilene Race Rads owner brings familiar name to Texas dirt track circles

ABILENE, Texas – A lot of Kyle Wisdom’s racing friends are now his customers, too.

The veteran driver is the new owner of Abilene Race Rads, which returns for its second season as an IMCA special events sponsor this year.

“We want to keep getting our name out there,” said Wisdom, the 2017 Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMod track champion at hometown Abilene Speedway. “The program with IMCA is a great way to help our friends and competitors, and to help the sport keep moving forward.”

A casual conversation with Tommy Fain led to Wisdom buying Abilene Race Rads earlier this year. He’d been acquainted with the business through his friendship and business relationship with the affable Fain.

“Tommy and I have been friends and I’ve done a lot of business with him over the years,” recounted Wisdom, whose son Zach moves from a Stock Car to the Southern SportMod division this season.. “He had been thinking about maybe retiring, I said I’d like to take over and here we are.”

“I took over on Feb. 1,” he continued. “The ice storm put me into panic mode but other than that it’s been great, talking to racers and helping them with product.”

Abilene Race Rads gives $50 gift certificates, which can be applied toward the purchase of a racing radiator or fan blade, to top five finishers at 80 designated specials for IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods.

Those certificates will be mailed from the IMCA home office after official race results are received. The Modified champion at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s gets a single pass racing radiator while Stock Car, Hobby Stock and Northern SportMod champions all exit the pit area at Boone Speedway with a Super Sucker 4-blade fan.

Information about all Abilene Race Rads high performance, street rod, commercial and highway vehicle products is available by calling 800 588-2673, at abileneracerads.com and on Facebook.

“We got the program started with Tommy and then talked to Kyle about keeping it going under his new ownership,” noted IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder. “They are a real benefit to IMCA racers and we’re excited to maintain the support of Abilene Race Rads in 2021.”
