Thompson, Roth are IMCA winners at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 24) – Sunday racing action at Dubuque Speedway provided the fans with a thrilling night of action packed plenty of wheel-to-wheel action on Casey’s General Store Night at the Races.

Derek Thompson found the tacky track to his liking in scoring the 20-lap Merfeld Auto IMCA Modified feature. Thompson led the most laps in taking the checkers ahead of Austin Moyer and Matt Short.

Jason Roth won his second consecutive GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Northern SportMod main event. Roth took the point position after the midway portion of the 18-lap main and went on to cross under the flag stand ahead of Gage Neal and Troy Bauer.

McCrady takes charge at Dubuque Speedway, Sunday shows will feature five IMCA divisions

DUBUQUE, Iowa – New promoter Nick McCrady has a to-do list that starts with putting on an entertaining race program each and every Sunday this race season at Dubuque Speedway. “This is an awesome facility and we’re excited to work with the fair board here. We’ve already gotten a lot of support from drivers and fans,” said McCrady, who also returns to the promoter’s post at Saturday venue Maquoketa Speedway. “We want them to know they’re appreciated and we want to put on a good show while we’re building car counts back up.” Five sanctioned divisions will run weekly at the 3/8-mile oval in Dubuque, the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Late Models, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Independence, Dubuque dates next on Deery Series schedule

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – A Deery Brothers Summer Series doubleheader is on the docket this weekend, as the 33rd annual tour for IMCA Late Models travels to Independence Motor Speedway and Dubuque Speedway. A top prize of $2,000 is on the line Saturday, April 27 at Independence while the winner of the Sunday, April 28 Hershel Roberts/Ray Guss Sr. Memorial at Dubuque goes home with $2,500. Both features pay a minimum of $300 to start. The Sunday show was rescheduled after a mid-April twinbill at Maquoketa and Dubuque was lost to unseasonable weather. The 492nd event in series history takes Deery drivers and fans to Independence for the 30th time. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, $15 for students and free for kids 12 and under when accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $35. Farley, Dubuque set to go green this weekend

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa – The racing season is set to see the first green flags of 2018 at the popular Northeast Iowa tracks under the direction of Farley Speedway Promotions. Farley Speedway, located on the southwest corner of Farley, Iowa, is set to entertain a full program of weekly racing that includes IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods on Friday, April 27 with hot laps taking to the 3/8 mile dirt track at 7 p.m. On Sunday, April 29, the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway will open the 2018 campaign with sanctioned Modifieds and Northern SportMods on the card. Sunday’s start time has been moved up to 5 p.m. for the upcoming season. The earlier start time will allow fans and competitors alike an opportunity to get home much earlier and get a good night’s rest to prepare for the week ahead. Van Der Wilt and Nielsen Capture Tuesday Hobby Stock Qualifiers at Super Nationals

By Ben Deatherage BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 2, 2025) — Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks ran two 25-lap qualifiers Tuesday night at the Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s, with the top eight finishers from each race advancing to Saturday’s Big Dance at Boone Speedway. Corey Van Der Wilt dominated Qualifier 2, which set the middle row, while Brandon Nielsen prevailed in a thriller to win Qualifier 3, which set the outside row. In Qualifier 2, Van Der Wilt who hails from Lynnville, the 2023 Marshalltown Speedway champion, set the tone early and survived cautions on laps four, 12, and 20. Each time, he checked out on the restart and controlled the pace, cruising to a flag-to-flag win. Austin Jahnz charged forward from 12th to finish second, with Dustin Filloon third. Bolden and Carney Capture RaceSaver Nationals Qualifiers as Main Event Postponed to 2026

(Aug. 30, 2025) — With threatening weather forecasts for Sunday and beyond, Eagle Raceway officials combined both the Friday and Saturday programs of the 13th annual IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Nationals into a marathon card. A total of 104 RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car drivers filled the pits for the prestigious event. Friday’s qualifying feature saw Carson Bolden work his way forward after an early scramble at the front. He caught leader Stu Snyder just past the halfway mark, then powered into the lead on lap 14. Once out front, Bolden set the pace while the pack shuffled behind him. Kevin Ramey made his way into second and kept Bolden in sight, with Adam Gullion rallying late into third. Snyder held on to complete the top four transfers. Heckart and Bannister Capture Monday SportMod Super Nationals Qualifiers

By Ben Deatherage BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 1, 2025) — Tyler Heckart captured Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod Qualifier 1 on Monday night at Boone Speedway during the Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. The 25-lap feature locked eight drivers into the inside row of Saturday’s Big Dance. Michael Johnson, a 2019 Bakersfield Speedway champion originally from California and now living in Minnesota, and Kamdyn Haggard battled hard on the opening lap before Johnson claimed the lead on lap three. Hunter Poston slipped past Johnson the next time around, but Johnson clawed back to the front on the sixth circuit. By lap 10, North Dakota’s Nathan Speten, the 2024 IMCA TV Winter Nationals champion, had reeled in the leaders and powered to the point, appearing to be the man to beat. Speten’s charge ended with heartbreak when he stalled during a lap-13 caution, handing Poston the top spot once again.
