Trenchard triumphs at Haudenshild Tribute

WHITE CITY, Ore. (June 2) – After taking the lead from Preston Jones early in the race, Nick Trench­ard went on to victory in the 25-lap IMCA Modified main event Saturday at Southern Ore­gon Speedway.
This was the sixth annual Roger Haudenshild Tribute race and the win paid $2,000 to Trenchard, new to the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. It was also his third win in the big event.
Jones paced just one lap before Trenchard made an outside pass to gain the lead. On the third lap, Albert Gill took second and Duane Orsburn made his way to third.
By then, Trenchard was a straightaway in the lead, leaving behind him a good battle between Gill and Orsburn for second. Trenchard was working lapped traffic and in command when the caution flew on lap 11. Orsburn worked his way to second following the second restart.
Trenchard set a rapid pace and soon had a straightaway advantage. The man making the charge was Dave Duste Jr., who had fifth on the last restart and took fourth from Jones on lap 17.
Orsburn did a good job of handling the pressure in the battle for second, but Gill made a low pass on lap 22 to regain the position. Trenchard was never seriously threatened in posting an impres­sive victory.
Gill was a strong second and Orsburn spun on the final lap as he was battling Duste for third. Duste claimed the third position, followed by Zach Fettinger and Jones.
Trenchard added $200 to his total by winning the special 11-lap Crack The Whip race.
Fred Ryland was the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature winner. Justin McCreadie topped Crack The Whip.
Additional purse money was sponsored by the Haudenshild Family and Dusty’s Transmissions of Central Point.

Fettinger wins again at Southern Oregon 

By Don Martin II WHITE CITY, Ore. (July 21) – Racing into the lead from the start, Zach Fettinger scored his third IMCA Modified main event win of the season Saturday at Southern Oregon Speedway. In the process, Fettinger became the first driver to win more than two features in one season in the division since 2015. After taking the lead from Jimmy Lipke following a lap four restart, Tyler Rodgers went on to win the 20 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. He is the sixth different winner in six races. This was the first appearance at White City by the Chico, Calif., visitor.

New promotional team sets the bar high at Southern Oregon

WHITE CITY, Ore. – The bar will be set high at Southern Oregon Speedway. Idle for all of 2020, the 3/8-mile dirt oval at White City re-opens with a new promotional team in place and both IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods on race night programs.  Just seven weeks will separate Travis Hoppes and the Southern Oregon Motorsports team from being having been selected to operate the track to opening night on May 29. IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods will run on select Friday and regular Saturday race programs through Sept. 18. “We want this to be the number one facility on the West Coast,” Hoppes said, in the midst of extensive facility-wide improvements. “We want to make everything here look good and we want to show our drivers and fans that we care.” Built as a 3/8-mile oval, the track has been extended and reshaped to its original configuration. Fettinger returns to victory lane at Southern Oregon Speedway

By Don Martin II WHITE CITY, Ore. (July 7) – After taking the lead from Mark Wauge on lap 10, Zach Fettinger went on to win the 20-lap IMCA Modified main event Saturday at Southern Oregon Speedway. He won by a straightaway advantage at the checkered flag as Albert Gill settled for second. The feature had to be restarted after a lap one caution and that was the only yellow flag of the race. Wauge raced into the lead at the start, followed by Gill and Fettinger. Fettinger slipped past Gill for second on lap three, and the lead three cars ran in close formation at the front of the pack. A low move in turn two of the 10th lap put Fettinger into the lead and he was soon lapping slower cars.
