MINOT, N.D. (Aug. 17, 2025) — McGregor’s Travis Hagen powered from eighth starting to win the Second Annual Monte Lundy Memorial for the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, pocketing $4,014 on Sunday night at Nodak Speedway’s “Playground of Power.” The victory was Hagen’s 10th of the season in the Razor Chassis North Central Region and his sixth at Minot.
2014 Nodak Speedway title winner Drew Christianson led the opening laps before cautions slowed the early going. 2017 IMCA national kingpin Jason Wolla — also a two-time North Dakota State and former Nodak Speedway titlist — applied pressure on the restart, while four-time reigning Estevan Motor Speedway track ruler Kody Scholpp used the outside groove to grab the lead on lap six. Christianson briefly regained the point after a lap 14 restart, but Scholpp battled back on the high side. Defending Monte Lundy Memorial winner Aaron Turnbull, the 2013 Dakota Classic Modified Tour titlist, soon entered the fight, with multiple cautions — including one on lap 23 — keeping the leaders tight.
In the closing laps, Hagen turned up the pressure. He worked past Scholpp with four to go, then sliced through lapped traffic to check out on the field. In victory lane, the eight-time Williston Basin Speedway track champion revealed he was nearly out of fuel in the waning circuits, adding even more drama to his prestigious victory. Scholpp settled for second, while Turnbull brought home third in a talent-filled podium finish.
Grinstead Doubles Up With Hobby Stock Win
Stanley’s Tyson Grinstead made it back-to-back victories in the Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks, following his first career win at Southwest Speedway with a Sunday night triumph at Nodak Speedway. The victory marked his second straight in the B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region.
Defending McLean County Speedway track champ Caden Appelt led the opening circuit while fending off early challenges from Kaiden Tuchscherer. A series of cautions in the opening laps reshuffled the order, with Grinstead capitalizing on a lap 3 restart to take control on the bottom. Tuchscherer stalked him on the high side and closed in late, while Cash Saxon also joined the battle. Grinstead, however, was smooth under pressure, pulling away just enough on the final lap to secure another hard-fought win.
Hughbanks Dominates Sport Compacts
Zach Hughbanks of Minot continued his stellar season by dominating the 12-lap Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature at Nodak Speedway. The newly crowned 2025 track champion collected his seventh local win of the season and 12th overall.
Hughbanks jumped to the front on the opening lap and never looked back, building a commanding advantage. Two-time reigning North Dakota State champion Krys Yost settled into second while Aiden Wagner crossed in third. The checkers fell with Hughbanks in total control, putting an exclamation point on his championship campaign at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds 3/8-mile.
