CALHAN, Colo. (Aug. 16, 2025) — On championship night at El Paso County Raceway, the Sunoco IMCA Stock Car main event turned into a family affair as Peyton’s Brian Lessig powered to victory, followed by his son, Brian Lessig Jr. of Colorado Springs, in second. Local driver Ryan O’Lear of Calhan crossed in third to complete the podium.
The win was Brian Lessig’s second of the season at El Paso County Raceway and also his second in the EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region. More importantly, it secured him the track championship by just three points over O’Lear, 255 to 252, in one of the closest title battles of the year.
Clay Dominates SportMods; Championship Decided by Six Points
The Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods produced some of the fiercest racing of the year, but on championship night Colorado Springs’ Scott Clay left no doubt. Starting from the pole, Clay led every lap in a dominant performance, with Pueblo West’s Dave Stock in second and Calhan’s Daniel Payne in third.
The victory was Clay’s second of the season at the Calhan 3/8-mile oval. He also locked up the championship with 265 points, just six ahead of Stock’s 259. With three drivers finishing within 15 points of each other at season’s end, the SportMods delivered one of the most competitive title races at El Paso County this year.
Worthington Charges to Hobby Stock Victory; Berry Seals Title
The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks closed their season in dramatic fashion as Falcon’s Jacob Worthington stormed from a seventh starting spot to collect the feature win. Pueblo’s Brayson Siegle ran a strong second while Colorado Springs’ Chris Johnson rounded out the podium in third.
Worthington’s triumph was his fourth win of the season in the B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region — all of them coming at El Paso County Raceway. La Junta’s Brock Berry, meanwhile, claimed the Hobby Stock championship with 239 points, 12 points clear of Stacee Payne’s 227. Berry’s consistency near the front of the pack proved decisive across the year.
Frank Wins Sport Compacts; O’Lear Dominates Points
The Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts featured a competitive nine-car field on championship night. Colorado Springs’ Sean Frank made his way forward from fifth starting spot to claim the victory. Aurora’s James Embree crossed the line second while Boone’s Leann O’Lear held steady for third.
Frank’s victory was his second of the campaign, with both coming at El Paso County Raceway. But in the points chase, it was all O’Lear. She clinched the track title with 251 points, finishing well ahead of the field thanks to a season defined by speed and consistency.
