ALGONA, Iowa (July 31, 2025) — Kossuth County Speedway hosted a thrilling Thursday night program for the Harken/Hovinga Memorial Race. In the Sunoco IMCA Stock Car feature, Loren Pesicka Jr. took the early lead before giving way to Mike “Wahoo” Albertsen just two laps in. Behind him, a heated battle for second brewed between McCain Jennings, Kelly Shryock, David Wickman, Calvin Lange and Pesicka.
Shryock eventually won that battle and slowly began reeling in Albertsen by the halfway point of the 20-lap main. With four laps remaining, Shryock was right on Albertsen’s rear bumper when a caution flew for a Zayn Feaster spin.
Shryock threw everything he had at Albertsen on the restart, but the Audubon driver held his ground to score his second win of the season at Algona. The victory also snapped Shryock’s personal six-race win streak at the track. Albertsen now owns 10 overall wins in 2025, including eight in the EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region. Shryock was second and Jennings crossed the line third.
Krug Collects Second Win of the Year in Hobby Stocks
A complete restart was required at the start of the Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock feature after Grant Haugland spun in turn two. Parker Larson took the lead on the restart but held it only briefly, as Chris Krug stormed to the front on lap three and built a commanding advantage by halfway.
Although Brandon Nielsen closed the gap in the closing laps, Krug’s early dominance held firm as he captured his first feature win of the year at Algona. Season point leader Josh Sidles, who entered the night with a 32-point cushion over Nielsen, finished third.
The win marked Krug’s second B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region victory of 2025, each at a different track.
Mills Makes It Three at Algona in Modifieds
Colby Fett led early in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature before Jeremy Mills took control just one lap in. Despite cautions on laps two, seven, and 12, Mills never wavered up front and led the final 19 laps to secure the win.
Fett finished second and Kelly Shryock placed third for his second podium finish of the night. Mills now owns 10 wins in the Razor Chassis North Central Region, with three of those at Algona.
Smith Scores SportMod Victory with Dominant Drive
Mike Smith was in complete control of the Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod feature from the drop of the green. A lap four caution for a Jacob Tacheny spin was the only delay in an otherwise flawless run by the Lake City driver.
Smith grabbed his second win of the summer at Kossuth County and his seventh overall SportMod win of the season. Josh Appel finished second and Alec Fett took third.
Monson Breaks Through for First Win This Season in Sport Compacts
The Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature saw a complete restart after Mike Albert lost a tire on lap one. Tyler Fiebelkorn led the opening circuit, but Oliver Monson surged to the front on lap two and never looked back.
Monson led the final 11 green-flag laps to notch his first win of the 2025 season, earning a $500 payday courtesy of an anonymous donor. Fiebelkorn and Tyler Thompson completed the top three.
The event was streamed live on IMCA TV. Watch the replay with a monthly Replay Subscription for just $24.99/month. And don’t miss Season 2 of the Boone Docuseries, now streaming exclusively on IMCA TV.
