$1,000 to win feature for IMCA Modifieds at Thunderbird

MUSKEGON, Mich. – A $1,000 top prize and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility are on the line Saturday night for IMCA Modifieds at Thunderbird Raceway.  The July 31 program is presented by JJ Motorsports. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4:30 p.m., with hot laps at 5 p.m. and racing at 6:15 p.m.  Pit passes are $30 and spectator tickets will be available at the front gate. Adults are $12, seniors $10, kids ages 6-11 $5 and five and under free.

Thunderbird hosts May 22, 29 All-Star ballot qualifiers

MUSKEGON, Mich. – After last weekend’s rainout, IMCA Modifieds will race for $1,000 to win in Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying features each of the next two Saturdays at Thunderbird Raceway.  Deb’s Café sponsors the May 22 show at Muskegon. The May 29 Salute to Veterans program is presented b y Quarter Master Racing Clutches and Driveline Components. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. both days, the grandstand opens at 4:30 p.m., hot laps are at 5 p.m. and racing is at 6:30 p.m.  Pit passes are $30. MUSKEGON, Mich. – Opening night at Thunderbird Raceway features a $1,000 to win main event for IMCA Modifieds.  The Saturday, April 17 headliner is a qualifier for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot and is presented by Sprague Auto Parts.  Gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4:30 p.m. Hot laps start at 5 p.m. with racing at 6:30 p.m.  Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $5 for kids ages 6-11 and free for five and under. Spectators can bring small coolers only and no glass bottles. They are also asked to wear face masks until seated. Pit passes are $30.

Thunderbird Raceway becomes latest Michigan track to add IMCA Modifieds

MUSKEGON, Mich. – Tom Sprague has been a fan of the IMCA Modified division for 30-plus years. The sanctioned class will run at his Thunderbird Raceway beginning this season.  Opening night at the 3/8-mile clay oval in Muskegon, on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, is April 27. Saturday shows during the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season con­tinue through Aug. 31.  “I’ve always liked the IMCA rules. They’re for the budget-minded racer,” commented Sprague, who fit that description during his own career in the class. “When I bought Thunderbird I said from the get-go that we were going toward IMCA. They keep the rules consistent and the costs down.”  Sprague won track championships in both late model and sportsman classes and then became a tech inspector at Thunderbird.
