Ryan Rules Late Models at Maquoketa

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Aug. 9, 2025) — Infrequent visitor Matt Ryan dominated the 25-lap Season Championship feature at Maquoketa Speedway for the Sunoco IMCA Late Models. Starting inside the second row, Ryan quickly powered to the front and led the remainder of the race, taking the win ahead of seventh-starting Logan Veloz. The points battle came into the night with Jake Morris holding a slim two-point lead over Steve Johnson. When the checkers waved, Morris finished one spot behind Johnson — enough to claim the IMCA Late Model track championship by a single point. Ryan’s victory was his third of the season, each coming at a different track. Diercks Delivers in Modifieds The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds Season race came down to a head-to-head battle between Spencer Diercks and Charlie Mohr. Both drivers ran the high side with precision, but a slight bobble by Mohr opened the door for Diercks to take the lead and drive away to victory. Mohr held second ahead of Justin Veloz. Despite a sixth-place finish, Jaden Fryer had built [Read More]

James Makes History as First-Ever Repeat Winner of Banks Mod Nationals

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. (Aug. 9, 2025) — Albany’s Bricen James became the first repeat winner of the Whisler Construction Banks Mod Nationals presented by Schram Brothers Excavating, scoring his second career win in the event with a $2,000-to-win 40-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature triumph at Sunset Speedway Park. The two-time reigning IMCA Wild West Speedweek champion and 2019 Shaw Race Cars Western Region champion wheeled the Schram Motorsports no. 13 to his eighth win of the season in the region and first at the Banks Bullring in 2025. Six-time track champion and 2024 Oregon State titleholder Craig Cassell paced the opening lap before James used the bottom groove to take over down the backstretch. The first caution slowed the pace on lap six, but once the field settled in, James stretched his advantage and reached lapped traffic on lap 20. Another yellow at lap 23 interrupted a spirited battle for second between Cassell and four-time Washington State champion Tyson Blood, who held the spot at the stoppage. James again pulled away on the [Read More]

Cory Probst: 300 Wins and Counting in the Hobby Stocks

By Ben Deatherage BREWSTER, Minn. (Aug. 8, 2025) — In Brewster, Minnesota — a small town of just over 500 residents with deep railroad roots — Cory Probst has built a racing career that’s anything but small. The driver of the No. 75C Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock reached an extraordinary milestone on August 2 at Arlington Raceway, claiming his 300th feature win. For Probst, the historic night came on familiar ground. His 100th win was at Arlington on June 23, 2018. His 200th win came at the same track on June 18, 2022. It’s a place where he has collected some of his biggest moments — and a track that still brings out the best in him. “Arlington is one of my favorite tracks,” Probst said. “It’s a big half-mile with room to move. Things don’t get as congested, and if things get ugly, there’s places to hide.” Probst’s milestone was the 17th time in his 27 B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region wins this year that he has started ninth or deeper in the field. By Ben Deatherage SPENCER, Iowa (Aug. 6, 2025) — Joel Rust showed the way in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at Clay County Fair Speedway, collecting his first-ever Hunting With Heroes Salute To Veterans Tour presented by Performance Bodies and Parts victory. The win came during the third night of Iowa Speedweek and also served as the Clay County Clash. The 20-lap, $2,000-to-win contest marked Rust’s third triumph of the season in the Razor Chassis North Central Region, each at a different track. Rust, from Grundy Center, took the lead from the drop of the green and built a commanding advantage before a caution on lap 14 gave second-running Brandon Beckendorf one final shot. But Rust, a two-time Benton County Speedway champion and 2016 Harris Clash winner, was unfazed and pulled away on the restart for a dominant win. Beckendorf, the 2018 regional champion and five-time Minnesota State title holder, finished second while Nick Meyer, the 2018 Kossuth County and Hancock County Speedways champ, took third.
