Spaw celebrates birthday with CJ Speedway win

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 3, 2024) – The 2024 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season got underway on Friday night at the CJ Speedway on a nice night for racing. The headliner of the night was the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event with a stellar field of drivers set for the 16-lap feature. Kirk Kinsley led in the early going before sixth starting Johnny Spaw was able to put his no. 00 out front. With Spaw out front, Corey Strothman and Dustin Griffiths joined in a three-car breakaway battling for the lead. Spaw took the win and Strothman crossed under the checkers in second but failed post-race inspection giving second to Griffiths. John Oliver Jr. came on strong in the late going to take third. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature saw Washington driver Brandon Banks score the win. Sunday Governor’s Cup show starts 31st IMCA season at Dawson County

LEXINGTON, Neb. (May 3, 2024) – It’s two days before the 31st opening night event under the IMCA banner and things are understandably a little hectic … in a good way … at Dawson County Raceway. The first green flag flies at approximately 6 p.m. Sunday for the first of five race programs this season at the Lexington oval. The Governor’s Cup Show sees IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars in their $2,000 to win, minimum $200 to start Dirt Crown show, plus Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods in a $1,000 to win feature. Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds run for $500 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $300 to win. “We’re excited. Fast Shafts All-Star eligible list adds six

VINTON, Iowa (April 30, 2024) – Another half-dozen Friesen Performance IMCA Modified drivers became eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational during a month that saw more than its share of rain and too many rainouts. Chad Andersen won on opening night of the Ice Breaker Challenge at Eagle Raceway and Dylan Sherfick topped WaKeeney’s Buzzard Bash Dash. Kellen Chadwick collected the Central California Clash checkers at Antioch and Brett Berry was the winner during Dodge City’s Sprint Car Nationals. Miller sprints to IMCA RaceSaver East Coast Nationals win

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (April 27, 2024) – The fourth time was a charm Saturday night for Chris Miller. The Chillicothe speedster was first across the stripe every lap of the inaugural East Coast Nationals Chad Hyatt Memorial, collecting a $2K IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car payday at hometown Atomic Speedway. “This has been a race we’ve had our eves on for a while, but it got rained out twice last year and again last week,” Miller explained following his first checkers in three Ohio Thunder Sprint Series starts so far in 2024. “To pick up the win means a lot. FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (April 27, 2024) – With a career-first Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature win on his resume, Cody Apfelbeck promised he’d work just as hard for his second. The Burnett driver held off 10th starting Cole Czarneski and the rest of a who’s who of Wisconsin IMCA Modified field Saturday night, leading start to finish of the main event at 141 Speedway. “It was a good morale booster and a good win for the team,” said Apfelbeck, who bounced back big time from engine issues that resulted in a DNF from his heat at Francis Creek two weeks prior. “It was obviously helpful to start on the pole but it means a lot to be able to win here. PLEASANTON, Texas (April 27, 2024) – Logan Dinsmore made back-to-back visits to victory lane when the South Texas IMCA Modified Series returned to I-37 Speedway on Saturday night. Twenty Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds lined up for the four-wide salute before taking the green. Raymond McSpadden led the pack into turn one, but Cody Tidwell got a run up top to snag the lead pursued by Chris Morris, McSpadden, Rick Green and John Hortch. Shatzer gets to lead late in Winchester RaceSaver win

WINCHESTER, Va. (April 27, 2024) – He didn’t lead the most laps, just the most important one. Dylan Shatzer raced in the top three for the whole feature and was finally able to swoop around the leader in traffic after taking the white flag in second and go on to win in the Saturday IMCA RaceSaver event co-sanctioned by the Virginia Sprint Series and Laurel Highlands Sprint Series at Winchester Speedway. Matt Klien and Ryan Lynn started on the front row of the feature but Klien stopped in turn two with a broken rear axle, which could have been a disaster at speed.
