Way breaks through with big IMCA Modified win at Maquoketa

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (July 6, 2024) – Saturday nights race program at the Maquoketa Speedway was hosted by our friends at Downtown Nutrition and the kids club hosted Christmas in July at the races. Kids were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Claus plus the Grinch was also in attendance. Travis Denning driver of the IMCA Sunoco Late Model number 56D presented all the youngsters with glowing wristbands and checkered flags. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature treated the fans with outstanding racing on a wide and smooth fast track. Mitch Way took control of the race early from his second row start and appeared to be on his way to his first Maquoketa Speedway win. Night two Freedom Cup wins to Muth, Sanders

(July 5, 2024) – Night two of the Freedom Cup holiday special at Cottage Grove Speedway saw Brett Muth race to his first Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature win. The hometown hero, third in the opening night main event, led every lap of the non-stop feature and took the checkers ahead of Thursday winner Jake Mayden and Kevin Williamson. Muth started on the outside of the front row, kept Kevin Williamson and Bennett Bray of Roseburg in check when the green flag waved and promptly started to check out. Williamson, with a busted component on his right front, fought hard to maintain second but was soon challenged by Mayden, who in turn had his hands full with Aaron Sheelar. CJ Speedway fans see See score Stock Car win

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 5, 2024) – Oveson Refuse and Recycle hosted IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing action at the CJ Speedway located on the Louisa County Fairgrounds in Columbus Junction on Friday. The first main event on the program was the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. 2023 national rookie of the year Tucker Richardson led the main event for the first eight laps, holding off Luke Phillips. Richardson was not able to hold off a move that Phillips used working the extreme high line of the track coming off of turn two on lap number nine. Phillips went on to take the checkers first ahead of Richardson, with Shane Richardson crossing under the checkers in third. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars were up next with another great race treating fans to plenty of wheel to wheel action as drivers raced four-wide on several occasions. Thornton is extremely good on Xtream Night at Marshalltown

A strong field of 134 cars checked in to entertain fans who saw Dylan Thornton capture his first local feature in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified division. Austin Kaplan also took his first trip to victory lane in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. (July 4, 2024) – Fireworks on the track followed fireworks over Great Falls, and the rest of the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified field followed Ty Clemens to the finish of the 40-lap Fastest In the Falls main event at Electric City Speedway. The Belgrade hotshoe, already Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible, banked $2,100 for the Fourth of July victory, which came ahead of hometown speedsters Joey Price, Kolby Hannah and David Davis. The main event had kicked off with Kody Kuglin seizing the lead in the first set of corners. The race for second heated up among Clemens, Michael Leach and Joey Price. Leach secured the position just before a lap two caution. Kuglin and Leach led the pack back to green, with Price holding onto third. Freedom Cup openers go to Mayden, Sanders

(July 4, 2024) – Cottage Grove Speedway celebrated Independence Day and the facility’s sixty-eighth birthday while Jake Mayden and Matt Sanders celebrated IMCA feature wins on the first of three nights of Freedom Cup action. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature began with a pair of CGS champions battling it out as Mayden and Braedon Hand tussled. Hand led the opening stanza but was overtaken by Mayden on the next trip around the track. Mayden started to check out by a healthy margin, and behind him was a firecracker of a run from Brett Muth, who quickly moved from sixth into third on the 11th circuit. Two laps later, Muth climbed into second while Paul Rea made a surge to secure third place. Things cooled down briefly for the lone stoppage of the main event with 18 laps complete. Sobbing wins inaugural Ray Haase Tribute Race

(July 3, 2024) – Off Road Speedway hosted a special event Wednesday night honoring Ray “the Hummer” Haase, a long-time racer who, with his brother Robert, were the founders of Riviera Raceway. As part of the ceremony, Haase’s well-known No. 02 car served as a pace car leading 21 IMCA Sunoco Late Models through parade laps just before the start of the inaugural Ray Haase Tribute Race at Off Road Speedway. The feature race, won by Jesse Sobbing, finished a weather-abbreviated program of heat races, time trials, and “B” features in six classes, with features to be completed on Friday, July 12 along with a regular night of racing.
