Fryer takes IMCA Modified win at Dubuque

By Rob Hinckley DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 2) – The track came to him. That is what Jaden Fryer wanted Sunday evening at Dubuque Speedway. The Freeport, Ill. pilot shot from the outside front row and held off track champion Bryce Garnhart and NASCAR and dirt legend Ken Schrader to win the Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modified 20-lap feature. “This was really special,” Fryer said in C&W Trucking/Hoker Trucking/Kam Koncepts Victory Lane. “It was fun getting the win and we worked hard.” Fryer and his team dedicated the win to a friend recently lost to cancer and had the car wrapped in her memory. COLBY, Kan. (June 1) – Dominic Ursetta didn’t need a lot of laps to shake any bugs out of his new ride. Ursetta debuted a new 2019 GRT by Phillips in winning Friday’s IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program at Thomas County Speedway. He followed up with the $3,000 Nutrien IMCA Modified Madness checkers at Colby on Saturday, beating Eddie Belec to the finish line by two-plus seconds. “It took us a little while to find our line Saturday,” said Ursetta, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. “Once we got into the lead we were able to pull away a little.” Tanner Black and Cody Gearhardt had started at the front of the Modified Madness field. Franzen beats Schrader, rest of Modifieds at Maquoketa

Jarrett Franzen actually pushed that chimp in dominating form, leading all 20 laps of the QCJeeps.com IMCA Modified feature Saturday evening at Maquoketa Speedway. “I got lucky on the start,” Franzen said. “(Polesitter) Tyler Madigan pushed on the start and I started second row inside and it was pretty much a bottom race track.” The win ended a string of “almosts” in the Fryer Motorsports No. 60F. “Seems like we’ve led until lap 16 and the car burns off,” he said. “ We’ve finally been changing some stuff, dropping some bars we usually don’t do and it ended up working.” Franzen and team celebrated on Stead Family Children’s Hospital Night and beat all the stars, including Ken Schrader, who wound up fifth. Pospisil enjoys unexpected Off Road Speedway victory

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (June 1) – An IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock rookie enjoyed an admitted unexpected victory Saturday night at Off Road Speedway. Shannon Pospisil picked up his first win in the division, moving up this season after several years in the Mach-1 Sport Compact class. Winning this early in the season was ahead of schedule but after starting on the outside of the front row, Pospisil was able to remain among the first three cars of the 16-car field until securing and holding onto the lead with seven laps left. “It feels great; I wasn’t expecting anything like this until maybe next year,” Pospisil said. “It’s nice to start up front.” Jason Wilkinson won the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature.

$1,100 to win special awaits United Rebel Sprint Series this Saturday

Hall of Fame Night checkers fly for Wilinski

By Dave Buss SHAWANO, Wis. (June 1) – Jerry Wilinski was the IMCA Modified winner on Hall of Fame Induction Night at Shawano Speedway. Wilinski skated by Tim Rothe on the second lap to grab the lead in the Saturday main event. Wilinski checked out from the field until a lap nine caution brought the pack back together. The yellow flag was the only thing that slowed Wilinski as he again jumped to a dominating lead on the restart. Wyatt Block, Rothe and Konnor Wilinski were left to sort things out for second at the line with Block grabbing the spot followed by Roth and Konnor Wilinski in the top four. Not to be outdone, Dan Michonski got by polesitter Asa Doxtator on lap one of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature and proceeded to disappear from the pack on his way to a green to checkers win. Gustin cashes in at Marshalltown with Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights win

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 4) – The driver who’s won the most Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour features added to his total Tuesday evening at Marshalltown Speedway. Richie Gustin topped the $2,000 to win main event for IMCA Modifieds, taking the lead on lap eight and pulling away from Jordan Grabouski to capture the opening night checkers. Gustin was already on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. The victory was his tour career ninth and third at Marshalltown. Tim Ward had led the stout field as the race went green, with Gustin tucking in behind to run in second. Gustin took several peeks in the corners, tried an unsuccessful slide at lap seven, then managed the pass on the front stretch at lap eight to take command. Hogge won the seventh annual Roger Haudenshild Tribute race for the IMCA Modifieds Saturday at White City. The California speedster piloted his backup car to the Modified checkers and drove a Paul Guglielmoni-owned late model to the winner’s circle as well. “This is a track that can be challenging because of its unique characteristics. You’ve got to pay attention there as a driver,” said Hogge, who’d won the R. Nearly perfect, Munsen is best at Bethany

By Rick Staley BETHANY, Mo. (June 1) – Josh Munsen was nearly perfect Saturday night on his way to his first Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod victory of the season at Bethany Speedway. Jason Nelson used a front row starting position to take the early lead, only to see Munsen power by on the low line. Munsen held off the challenges of heat race winners Coleman Browning and Chris Wright as the race progressed. Colton Nelson made his presence felt racing through the pack to go after Munsen and finish a very close second. Browning was third. Chad Clancy collected the IMCA Modified checkers.

Big Sky, Sheridan host IMCA Gunslinger Tour dates

BILLINGS, Mont. – Four dates and a pair of Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events comprise the upcoming Gunslinger Tour. IMCA Modifieds race for $600 to win on Friday, June 7 and for $1,000 to win on Saturday, June 8 at Big Sky Speedway in Billings, Mont.; and for $600 to win on Sunday, June 9 and for $1,000 to win on Monday, June 10 at Wyoming’s Sheridan Speedway. Top driver in points for the four shows now earns an additional $1,000 plus a championship belt. Second place gets $750, third place gets $500, fourth place gets $400 and fifth in points is good for $300.
