Bittner wins after Reed dominates at Hagerstown

By Jim Haines HAGERSTOWN, Md. (May 18, 2024) – Timmy Bittner was in the right place at the right time. Austin Reed was not, in the Saturday feature race at Hagerstown Speedway co-sanctioned by the Virginia Sprint Series  and the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series. With rain outs in the area everywhere, 35 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars signed in to the smooth fast oval and the feature line up was led by Ken Duke and Kenny Heffner. As the field went green, out front like a rocket was Reed, who started to pull away lap after lap, leaving Duke, Heffner and Bittner to fight over the runner-up spot. Reed was not going to be caught as the laps were winding down, with Bittner making his way to second, Heffner in third and Josh Spicer and Duke acing for fourth. But coming to two to go in turn three, it all went wrong with the leader getting together with a lapped car and going out of the park. Emergency personnel quickly made their way to help Reed. Uehling rules Off Road IMCA Hobby Stock feature

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (May 18, 2024) – Half a car length made the difference between a W and second-place in Saturday’s IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature at Off Road Speedway. In the closest race of the night, Uehling edged Jason Wilkinson at the flag stand by a half-car length for a win. Uehling, who started on the outside of row one, led all 15 laps with Wilkinson in pursuit the entire race.  The pair repeatedly pulled away from the field, even following a caution with just six laps remaining, and Wilkinson increased the pressure each of the final trips around the track. Wilkinson closed the gap coming out of turn four the last time around, then pulled alongside Uehling briefly on the backstretch but would get no closer than Uehling’s door as the cars passed the flag stand. Pole-sitter Trevor Frisch out-dueled a number of contenders to secure third place. In the IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature, Cory Dumpert responded to last week’s narrow defeat by bouncing back with a runaway win. Dumpert, [Read More]

Hesse hauls to career first checkers at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (May 18, 2024) – Cole Hesse became a first-time winner, on a night of firsts Saturday at Arlington Raceway. The Gibbon hotshoe made the most of the lower line, made his way to the front of the field by lap five and then made his way to victory lane following his career-first Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod victory. “Definitely down low was fastest, and it seemed like (turns) one and two were better for me,” said Hesse, who would pull away to a two second advantage before the end of the race. “I’ve got one trophy now and hopefully I can add more. That’s always the goal.” Hesse had started in the second row and was in command before halfway. He was a quarter of a lap ahead of second running Jeff Carter, who held Matt Looft in check for the entire distance. “I’ve always said that finishing second running against (six-time national champion) Looft was like winning,” said Hesse, starting his second full season in the class. “This win takes a huge [Read More]

Crystal checkers give DeYoung IMCA Modified wins in 30 straight seasons

CRYSTAL, Mich. (May 18, 2024) – Myron DeYoung might have raced his way into the IMCA record book Saturday night but he’ll be the first person to tell you he didn’t get there all by himself. DeYoung became the first driver to win a Friesen Performance IMCA Modified weekly feature in 30 consecutive seasons, topping the May 18 main event at home track Crystal Motor Speedway. “Winning the regional championship last year was big, but this was an even bigger accomplishment once I started thinking about it,” he said the next day. “It’s humbling to think about all the people who have helped so I can go out and win races. I didn’t do this by myself.” DeYoung earned the first of what is now 144 career victories in the class in 1995. There have been some lean seasons since but he’s added at least one IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing win every year since. Along with the 2023 DeVilbiss Racing Chassis Eastern Region crown, DeYoung has also compiled nine track titles – eight of [Read More]

Aikey takes top honors at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (May 19, 2024) – Rain may have caused a delay, but it didn’t put a damper on Sunday’s racing program at Benton County Speedway. A rain shower that started as the first heat of the night hit the track forced a delay of more than an hour. When the skies cleared, it was business as usual at The Bullring. Jeff Aikey found success in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds. From his pole position start, Aikey powered away from the field in the Wright Way Trailers 20-lapper and then withstood challenges on a couple restarts to race to victory. Chris Zogg, Brennen Chipp and Troy Morris III completed the top four. Tony Olson made a dazzling move following a caution midway through the 15-lapper for Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods to score his second win of the season. Trenchard, Peery are first on Friday night at Yreka

By Ben Deatherage YREKA, Calif. (May 17, 2024) – After nearly a month off of racing, Yreka Speedway roared back to life on Friday with a race program that attracted drivers from California, Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event began with a wild start as a car at the front of the field got sideways in turns three and four. Nick Trenchard used some evasive maneuvers to get around the spinning ride then settled into the front spot. The race stayed green before another caution came out on the ninth circuit.  Before the main event’s second and final stoppage, a wild three-car tussle for second place position ensued between Mallet, Arizona traveler Timothy Allerdings and Monte Bischoff. The Klamath Falls, Ore. phenom Trenchard was lights out fast and had no issues with open track conditions or lapped traffic on his way to his second victory of the 2024 season and 20th career triumph at Yreka. Allerdings fended off all contenders to grab second, with the veteran Bischoff ending up third. [Read More]

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 18, 2024) – Saturday night, McMahon Salvage sponsored the Maquoketa Speedway racing program by adding bonus money to the Hobby Stock and Stock car main events and both of those feature events were won by members of the racing Miles family. The leader of the pack, Jerry Miles collected the bonus money in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars while graduating senior Jordan Miles collected the bonus money by winning the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature.  Twenty IMCA Sunoco Late Models took the green and their 25 lapper went flag-to-flag with great action throughout the entire race. Travis Denning took the lead at the dropping of the green and appeared to have the feature win within his grasp until late in the race  before the leaders encountered lapped traffic. Denning chose to take to the low line as he came on the slower traffic and that allowed Evan Miller to take to the top and drive around Denning. While Denning was trapped down low, Justin Kay and Matt Ryan also were [Read More]

Mroczkowski mauls Outagamie Stock Car foes

By Joe Verdegan SEYMOUR, Wis. (May 17, 2024) – Josh Mroczkowski’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win at Outagamie Speedway Friday night was beyond impressive for a couple of reasons. For starters, the Krakow racer’s margin of victory at the checkers was a mere .028 seconds. What’s more, Mroczkowski fought off a pair of former IMCA national champions to the line in the process – Pulaski drivers Rod Snellenberger and Brandon Czarapata. Mroczkowski started inside row two of the 20 lap contest and wrestled the lead away from Keegan Van Ooyen on lap four. As the laps clicked off, Snellenberger and Czarapata, who started in the fifth and sixth rows, respectively, began methodically picking off their opponents one-by-one and began to gradually reel in the Krakow Ace. A late race caution bunched up the field, and despite Snellenberger’s best efforts Mroczkowski beat Snellenberger at the line by mere inches. The margin was so close the finish had to be confirmed by transponder scoring. Snellenberger settled for runner-up money, with Czarapata, Nick Buckarma and Devin Snellenberger [Read More]
