Gustin and Gustin go to victory lane at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug 2, 2024) – It was EMW Trucking Military Memorial Night at the Marshalltown Speedway on Friday. Pre-race ceremonies honored those that gave the ultimate sacrifice as well as honoring those veterans in attendance, who were given free admission thanks to EMW.  More money was also on the line for four of the divisions racing. Tom Berry, Jr. went away with the $2,000 IMCA Friesen Performance Modified win, Jimmy Gustin had the crowd on its feet on the final corner when he won the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car $1,000 feature, and sister Jenae Gustin won the $1,300 IMCA Friesen Performance Northern SportMods for the second week in a row.  It was another close one at the line in the $600 to win IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks as Calvin Dhondt crossed the finish line first in a dash to the checkers. Flippo dominates at Britt, Smith gets 99th win

By Chad Meyer BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 2, 2024) – Three different drivers were in the second position at different times of Friday’s Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at Hancock County Speedway. Jerry Flippo, however, proved to be the one who could move up a spot. Flippo, who has suffered through a summer of bad luck, finished the race more than a half track ahead of eventual runner-up Cody Knecht. Knecht charged from sixth to finish ahead of Clint Hatlestad and Jeremy Mills.  In the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Troy Swearingen made the last lap count as he made a huge move to the bottom of turns one and two to sweep up in front of long-time leader Parker Slagle. B & B All-Star eligible list adds 10 drivers

VINTON, Iowa (Aug. 1, 2024) – Another 10 drivers have become eligible to qualify for the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational. Hunter Domagala won Dacotah Speedway’s Governor’s Cup. Race Fisher and Robert Reed were Stock Car special winners at Fairgrounds Speedway. Patrick Linn paced Batesville’s JD Garrison Stock Car special, Brandon Schmitt topped the Twin 25 at Beaver Dam Raceway and Travis VanStraten scored big at Shawano’s Too Tough To Tame. County Fair show winners were Layne Bellm, Maguire DeJong and David Murray Jr. William Nusser was a weekly winner. Dallon Murty’s King of the Katwalks checkers secured him a starting spot in the B & B race; Kelly Shryock was already a guaranteed starter and won four qualifiers in the last two weeks, among them the rich Jim Larson Memorial. Ten new to Fast Shafts All-Star eligibility

VINTON, Iowa (Aug. 1, 2024) – Ten more Friesen Performance IMCA Modified drivers have put their names on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational eligible list, with feature wins paying $1,000 or more. Tyrone Yazzie and Wyatt Howard were winners at Diamond Mountain Speedway’s Modified Mania. Casey Jo Gemmill collected the $1,000 checkers at Saltcity Racing and Russ Reinwald rocketed to the win at 141 Speedway’s white race. Aaron Turnbull ruled at Dacotah Speedway’s Governor’s Cup, Brandon Schmitt was a winner during Beaver Dam Raceway’s Stock Car Twin 25 and Chris Mills collected the big checkers at Interstate Speedway’s Dave Riley Memorial. Whisler wheels to Loggers’ Cup win

(July 27, 2024) – Ian Whisler wheeled, and willed, himself to a dominating Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature win during Cottage Grove Speedway’s Virgil Hanson Memorial Loggers’ Cup. Carter Patterson powered to the front on the opening lap. Behind him, Eston Whisler duked it out with Bricen James for second. James secured the runner-up position only to have his night end when mechanical problems ended his night early and brought out a caution. John Campos and Whisler inherited second and third, respectively. When the restart got the field back up to speed, Ian Whisler, the younger of the Whisler brothers, blitzed toward the front and captured the race lead by the completion of the third circuit. Winebarger, Henry score Douglas County IMCA wins

(July 26, 2024) – Douglas County Dirtrack roared to life Friday night and Collen Winebarger and Jordan Henry roared to feature wins in their respective IMCA divisions. Carter Patterson led the first lap of the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main, then bolted away from Brett Muth and Tyler Smith and the rest of the pack after an early caution. Justin McCreadie rose to the occasion following the next restart and powered his way to second. McCreadie tried to thread the needle under Patterson for the lead but was denied access on the inside channel. McCreadie attacked again via the inside, beating Patterson out of the fourth corner on lap three. Winebarger obtained second the next time around. Winebarger went after the leader by working the high line, while McCreadie kept his faith on the inside. Winebarger got around McCreadie at the wire on the fifth circuit, but a debris caution came out, giving the lead back to McCreadie. North Carolina rookie has Saturday racing goal at IMCA Super Nationals

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 31, 2024) – His latest racing vacation to Iowa started with the Salute to Veterans. Griffin Taylor’s next visit to the Hawkeye State will bring him back to Boone Speedway and the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified rookie, a senior to be at A.L. Brown High School in his hometown of Kannapolis, N.C., got his on-track introduction to the class and the competition during the early-season Clash on the Coast Series in Florida. Taylor then ventured to early April Frostbusters at Stuart, Marshalltown and Boone, returning for four more Iowa outings last month. “Tracks back home are more of a sandy red clay. OBERLIN, Kan. (July 31, 2024) – Twenty years after winning dirt track racing’s ultimate championship, David Murray Jr. returns to the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s in pursuit of new glory in a new division. Lahr aces Arlington Sport Compact feature

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 27, 2024) – There was plenty of action on the track for Minnesota Farmfest Night Saturday at Arlington Raceway  After an early stoppage, there was a three-way battle for the lead in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Taylor Manderfield led until Chad Volk took over the race. He was holding off Cory Probst and Blake Luinenburg, who had started side-by-side in the fifth row. Volk felt the pressure and on lap seven Probst got around him to take over the lead. Luinenburg followed on the next lap. A yellow came out when Manderfield hit an infield tire in turn two, putting him to the back. When the race restarted Probst held onto the lead and took the win ahead of Luinenburg and Volk.  Two yellow flags occurred on the first lap of the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature. Weaver, Harris sprint to wins at Winchester

(July 27, 2024) – Winchester Speedway hosted a unique event in that with 40 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars signing in, the field would be split into two groups and for the field. Heat races kicked off the night with Reed Thompson and Landon Priced headed to feature one and Kolby Weaver and Zach Rhodes headed to feature two. Onto feature one with Kasey Weaver and Ken Duke Jr. pacing the field to green with Weaver out first and Duke right behind. The 20-lap feature was going by fast and even after a couple quick yellows for spinners, Weaver stayed steady and in control even with charges from Duke, who was holding off Austin Reed. With one to go the front of the field was nose to tail but Weaver would not waver and flashed under the checkered flag first.
