Night 2 worst to first storyline ends with Joiner’s win at IMCA Clash on the Coast

BAKER, Fla. (Feb. 28, 2023) – The top storyline from night two of the Clash on the Coast presented by IMCA.TV was Joseph Joiner’s drive from the worst starting spot in his heat to the best finishing position in the Tuesday main event at Northwest Florida Speedway. The Hunt the Front hotshoe from Milton led flag to flag in winning the fast-paced and caution-free Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at Baker, working his way through lapped traffic and outrunning opening night winner Austen Becerra to the $1,000, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible checkers.  “I knew we had a good shot when I knew I was on pole,” said Joiner, who’d run third in his first start in the car and the class on Monday at Baker. “I grew up racing here and track conditions were a lot like what I’m used to.”  “I’m glad I was able to capitalize on it. It turned out to be a good couple days,” he continued. “I’m thankful I was the guy who got to hold the steering wheel.”  More [Read More]

Becerra is best on opening night of inaugural IMCA Clash on the Coast

BAKER, Fla. (Feb. 27, 2023) – There was something about Northwest Florida Speedway that Austen Becerra liked during the Sunday practice at the quarter-mile Baker oval.  He liked it a lot more following his Monday win on opening night of the inaugural Clash on the Coast presented by IMCA.TV. Becerra, from Carthage, Ill., motored from ninth starting to lead the last 20 of 25 laps in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event. The checkers were good for $1,000, a unique surfboard-shaped trophy and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility.  “I knew that starting ninth was going to be tough but my car was lights out,” said Becerra. “The track was really good last night and we made a couple adjustments that we’re going to keep under our hat that were really good tonight.” The Clash on the Coast brought 58 IMCA entries from 14 states to Baker and the top six finishers in the feature hailed from different states.  Ryan Jenkins, Joseph Joiner, Drew Janssen and Derek Thompson ran second through fifth, respectively. Gould brings broom to Kennedale for Spring Kick Off sweep

KENNEDALE, Texas (Feb. 24-25, 2023) – William Gould brought the broom to Kennedale Speedway Park’s season-opening Spring Kick Off.  The defending GRT Race Cars South Central Region, Texas State and track champion started the weekend with Friday’s $1,000 Friesen Performance IMCA Modified checkers. Looking to complete the sweep on Saturday, he paced the field back to green following a late caution with familiar foes Jake Upchurch and Jacob Pirkle lined up right behind. “I had led every lap from the pole but that caution turned the race into a dash for cash, with two of the same fast guys I raced here with last season,” Gould said. “It was good to be able to hold on for the win. The track is always good, there’s always at least two lanes, and it was fast.” That win was also good for $1,000 and was Gould’s career 181st, tying him for 12th all-time in the division with Cory Sample.  He ran his own Kerry Fryar Motorsports Gould Chassis for the first this season at KSP, after shaking down [Read More]

Great IMCA racers, partners combine to make Clash on the Coast an event

BAKER, Fla. (Feb. 23, 2023) – All the nervous energy that promoter Peyton Taylor brought with him to Florida ahead of the inaugural Clash on the Coast presented by IMCA.TV has been transformed. Now it’s energy. “The response has been mind-blowing,” Taylor said, not much more than hours ahead of the tour for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, at NW Florida Speedway in Baker Feb. 27 and 28 and at Southern Raceway in Milton on March 3 and 4. “We have turned four races into an event, and that would not have been possible without a lot of great IMCA racers and a lot of great IMCA partners.”  More than 50 early entries are in hand, among them former and defending regional champions, former regional rookies of the year and IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s champions.  Local drivers will greet a strong contingent from Taylor’s home state of Arkansas and another 10 states, racing for $1,000 to win, a minimum of $100 to start and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility each night.  Purses [Read More]

Night two checkers are Iverson’s IMCA Modified first at Ice Breaker

ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 18, 2023) – A regular at the IMCA.TV Ice Breaker finally made the long tow home with a feature winner’s trophy. Tyler Iverson loaded up the hardware along with Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility following Saturday’s Friesen Performance IMCA Modified victory, then headed home to Albion, Neb. “We have been going to the Ice Breaker since about 2010 and had never won a feature,” Iverson said, after leading all 20 laps and taking the checkers ahead of four-time Ice Breaker winners William Gould and Josh McGaha. “I knew he (Gould) was right behind me and with the restarts, the key was making sure I didn’t drive too hard into the corner.”  “We’ve been chasing a win here for a long time and it seems like we finished second or third a lot,” added the Friday night runner-up. “It was great for us to finally get a win at Abilene.” Shelby Williams got his first Abilene win since 2008, collecting $1,500 along with the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers, while John Neal [Read More]

Top five car puts Clonch on top of opening night Ice Breaker podium

ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 17, 2023) – Tim Clonch thought he had a top five car. Then he knew he had a winning one.  Clonch caught race-long leader Gregory Muirhead just after midway and stayed in front the rest of the way to win Friday’s IMCA.TV Ice Breaker feature for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, earning $1,500 and B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility.  “We struggled in our heat race and before the feature we threw a big guess at it,” Clonch said of the setup changes made before the main. “I felt I had a top five car but after five or six laps I realized I had a car I could win with, and once I got the lead I knew we’d be tough to beat.”  Jeffrey Abbey moved up 10 spots to second and Muirhead was third.  Clonch had returned to the class last season, winning four times at Grayson County Speedway in a Paul Peters Motorsports 2018 B & B ride.  “We put a lot of time in on this [Read More]

Morris, Hogge, haul to first wins of season at Mohave Valley IMCA Meyer Showdown

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (Feb. 17-18, 2023) – Two of the California drivers who made long tows to Mohave Valley Raceway loaded up with early-season, shot-in-the-arm type Friesen Performance IMCA Modified wins at the end of the Bill and Shirley Meyer Showdown weekend. Bakersfield’s Troy Morris III won the Friday feature and $1,000 while Salinas veteran Bobby Hogge collected Saturday’s $1,500 checkers.  Their wins were the first of the season for both drivers and came in Morris’ 11th start and Hogge’s sixth outing of 2023.  Morris had made a single prior visit to Bullhead City, finishing second on a weekly show last spring. Wheeling the Victory ride his father drove in 2022, he got the best of Cody Laney in the battle for second, then reeled in leader Timothy Allerdings.  “I was able to set the pace from there and won by three and a half seconds,” said Morris, who took the checkers running in lapped traffic. “It was definitely rewarding to be able to go down there and win. TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 18) – After Thursday and Friday night IMCA STARS Lite feature wins at East Bay Raceway Park, Stevie Throop knew he was fast. After completing his weekend sweep at Tampa Bay with Saturday’s $4,000 Winter Showdown checkers, everybody else knew it, too.  “After the first two nights I knew I would have a good shot in the main,” said Throop, from West Palm Beach. “I was starting from the pole and felt pretty good about it. I knew I just had to get out there and run my race.”  Throop had topped $300 to win and $400 to win features, respectively, from the pole on Thursday and from eighth starting on Friday, then set the stage for Saturday’s main event with the dash victory. “We rolled with the same setup as the Sugar Bowl (the previous weekend) and didn’t change anything on the car after opening night,” said Throop, who led the IMCA STARS Mod Lite 25-lap big show from start to finish after a caution erased Joe Isabell’s pass for the [Read More]

Perfect start to season sees Raffurty dominate IMCA Sugar Bowl Winter Nationals

CLEWISTON, Fla. (Feb. 11, 2023) – Dillon Raffurty thought he had the car to win last year’s Sugar Bowl Winter Nationals presented by Sunoco Race Fuels. When he returned to Hendry County Motorsports Park for the fourth annual IMCA STARS Mod Lite special, he won almost everything but Saturday night’s 50/50 drawing.  Raffurty led all but the first circuit in winning the 30-lap headline event at Clewiston, taking the $7,500 checkers nearly four seconds ahead of runner-up Jimmy Wills.  “This was the perfect way to start the season. Three points races and three wins,” said the two-time defending IMCA national champion from Kansas City, Mo. “Our total for the week (just shy of $10,000) was way more than I was hoping for coming down.” Fifty-eight drivers from a dozen states and Canada vied over the course of the Feb. 8-11 special and nine of those states were represented on Saturday’s main event grid.  Defending race winner Ronnie Choate started outside Raffurty on the front row and led the first lap, then went to the back [Read More]
