Pearce prevails at Antioch’s Hetrick Memorial

By Candice Martin ANTIOCH, Calif. (Aug. 17, 2024) – A driver with a knack for coming up big at big events did just that again Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. Andrew Pearce won the 29-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at Antioch’s ninth annual Hetrick Memorial, earning $1,500. The checkers flew ahead of Bobby Hogge IV and Kellen Chadwick. Pearce had a front row start and bolted into the lead at the green flag ahead of Andrew Peckham and Hogge. Pearce build a comfortable lead as Hogge and Peckham battled fiercely for second. Hogge grabbed the position on the fourth circuit. The yellow flag waved on lap 12. Pearce continued to lead Hogge and Peckham on the restart. Peckham gave Hogge some serious pressure for the next few circuits, but Hogge kept his cool and held the position. Chadwick made an inside pass in turn two on lap 21 to gain third. Champions crowned at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (Aug. 18, 2024) – Season championship feature racing was held Sunday night at Benton County Speedway and track champions were crowned in six divisions at The Bullring. The best finish of the night came in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Christie Door Company. John Oliver Jr. wrapped up the track title by taking the green flag in that 20-lapper, but he ran second for much of the event to Braden Richards. Richards protected the top side of the speedway while Oliver pressured throughout the entirety of the event. With Oliver inching closer in the low groove, Richards took the low side to deny his efforts in the final set of turns on the final lap. Richards drifted to the middle of the track exiting turn four, allowing Oliver to draw alongside the leader coming to the checkers. Boone track titles to McBirnie, Smith, Smith, Masolini, Glick

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 19, 2024) – It was the Season Championship Saturday night at Boone Speedway, ending the 2024 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season at Iowa’s Action Track. Feature racing saw the top six in points locked in for the night and inverted for their start. The rest of the main event lineups were determined through heat races. Each division was brought to the frontstretch prior to their feature event, with out of car introductions. Each division had five laps added to their features. The Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lite 20-lap feature was up first. Ben George grabbed the lead when the race went green and it was to his liking. He led all 20 laps on his way in the caution-free event, for his fourth checkers of the year. Cory Sonner followed him most of the distance to take second place. Josh May finished a distant third. Points races near end at Off Road Speedway

(Aug. 17, 2024) – With one final night of racing remaining on the Off Road Speedway schedule for 2024, the points races in four IMCA divisions are nearly finished as Championship Night draws near. On Saturday night, Cory Dumpert moved up nine spots from a starting position in the fifth row to earn his fourth IMCA Sunoco Late Model win of the season at Norfolk. Dumpert, who currently sits atop the national IMCA Late Models points list while pursuing his sixth national championship, didn’t get to the front until just seven laps remained. After race leader Matt Haase was passed by Chase Osborne during lap nine of what had been a two-car battle for the lead, Dumpert began to move forward. Within three laps, Dumpert had joined the leaders, then passed both Haase and Dumpert on consecutive laps to take the lead. Hughbanks scores sixth straight at Mandan

By Becca Pelkey MANDAN, N.D. (Aug. 16, 2024) – There’s no doubt about it, Zach Hughbanks is on a roll. The Minot hotshoe won his sixth straight Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature Friday at Dacotah Speedway. Defending track champion Krys Yost led early as Alex Thompson, Benjamin Burke and Hughbanks raced hard for second place. Hughbanks shuffled into the third position and quickly challenged Thompson for second. Hughbanks passed Thompson and set his sights on the leader. On lap five, Hughbanks passed Yost for the lead as Yost fell into the clutches of Thompson and Burke. As the laps wound down, Burke patiently worked his way toward the front, passing Yost for third and Thompson for second. Unfortunately for Burke, he ran out of time and had to settle for second place ahead of Thompson and Yost. Kevin Purdue held off Harrison Schwartz for fifth. Stanford scores first win as CJ Speedway runs season championships

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (Aug. 16, 2024) – CJ Speedway hosted Season Championships on Friday night, sponsored by long-time track supporters Rusty and Angie Zook of Midwest Frame & Axle. A great crowd turned out on a beautiful August evening to take in the final racing action of the 2024 season. It is always special to witness a driver score his first-ever win and that happened in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock class. Billy Stanford shot to the front from a third row start and went on to record the feature win over a fast-closing Luke Phillips. First-time visitor to the CJ Speedway Jimmy Doescher made the long tow down from Hollandale, Wis., and ran up front in the main before settling for third ahead of Shane Richardson. Six track champions crowned at Marshalltown Speedway

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug. 16, 2024) – It was the N 3rd Avenue Dairy Queen Larry Wollam Season Championship night Friday at Marshalltown Speedway and six track champions were crowned. Out-of-car introductions were made for all features. The point leader in each division drew for the way the feature would be lined up …4, 6, 8 or the complete field inverted. First to the track were the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. The draw was for the field to be inverted. Six extra laps were added making it a 22-lap main event and putting point leader Brayton Carter to start at the rear. When the race went green, it was outside front row starter Ryan Leeman taking the lead. A yellow flew on lap three when Will Wolf lost a wheel and by this time Carter had already made his way up to third place. Meyer, Smith, Hanselman all find first 2024 victories at Hancock County

By Chad Meyer BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 16, 2024) – Races Friday night were sponsored by John Furst Construction and the Hancock County Snowmobile Association and featured a gold rush on the front straight that featured over $500 in coins for the kids. Nick Meyer’s season at the Hancock County Speedway didn’t start until after mid-season, and he captured his first Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature of the year on Friday. Over the last five laps he pulled away from second place finisher Kelly Shryock. Jeremy Mills pressured the top three early but had to settle for third over Cody Knecht. Shryock won the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main but had to hold off a quick Colby Fett to do it. Fett found the bottom to be faster, however Shryock moved his line down just in time to prevent Fett from getting past. Behind Fett was a fast Kevin Ophiem in third while Justin Ades finished fourth. Contingency awards top $60,000 for upcoming IMCA Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 16, 2024) – Drivers competing at the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s will be in the running for the most exclusive titles in all of dirt track racing, as well as approximately $60,000 worth of contingency awards given by IMCA and event sponsors.
