Shenandoah win is pavement first for Bolac

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (July 6, 2024) – Last week at Langley Speedway Daren Bolac had a good run in the CCM Racing Sprinter. This week he had a better run, blasting off the front row, keeping his IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car under him and taking his first-ever pavement win in the Virginia Sprint Series headliner at Shenandoah Speedway. Bolac and Bill Mullis paced the Saturday night field to green with Bolac out first and Mullis in second while on the way were Jerald Harris and Caleb Harris, both intent on closing in. Bolac continued out front as Mullis kept making charges and even pulled alongside a couple laps but Bolac would keep it up front. Jerald Harris and Caleb Harris worked on Mullis and got by now chasing Bolac but they were hard on their tires to get there. Jerald Harris made it to the lead on lap 15 but Bolac kept the pressure on as Mullis stayed right behind Caleb Harris. Tire issues hampered both Caleb Harris and Jerald Harris as Bolac [Read More]

Harris jets to Langley Speedway win

By Jim Haines HAMPTON, Va. (June 29, 2024) – With Langley Air Force base across the street, jets flying above is the norm at Langley Speedway. Jerald Harris showed he had speed to join the pilots as the fastest thing in town, taking the Virginia Sprint Series win Saturday night. Chris Humblet and Matt Mullins paced the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green with Humblet out first and Mullins and Billy Hubbard in third. Humblet was not getting away as Harris joined the front pack, but it all went wrong for Humblet as he slowed and headed to the pits. Harris got by Hubbard and was working on Mullins as the laps were winding down. With five to go, Harris shot into the lead leaving Mullins and Hubbard to fight over second. Harris saved the best for last as he turned the fastest lap of the day racing under the checkered flag first as Mullins held off Hubbard for second. Next for the Virginia Sprint Series, it’s off to Shenandoah Speedway on Saturday July [Read More]

Third time is a (rainless) charm at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 29, 2024) – After a two week hiatus in events due to rain, Arlington Raceway managed to get an event in even though an inch and a half of rain fell the night before. Drivers were eager to get back to the track and compete and Bode Collision & Glass and K&R Towing put up an extra $100 to each feature winner so every feature was pretty intense. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks saw two different leaders. Jonathan Schroeder was the early leader but a yellow was thrown for Mac Tollefson on lap seven when he lost a tire and landed in the infield pond area. The following lap after the restart, Schroeder had troubles which sent him to the work area and later the pit, ending his night. That gave both Brett McConnell and Cory Probst an opportunity to gain positions on the restart. McConnell had the edge but he, too, ended up in the pit while Probst went on to lead the remainder of the race. Jordan Robinson had a [Read More]

Eagle celebrates Freedom Fest, Stan Cisar

By Greg Soukup  EAGLE, Neb. (June 29, 2024) – It was standing room only Saturday at Eagle Raceway for Freedom Fest 2024, and a special night celebrating the life of Stan Cisar. Stan was a long-time car owner and supporter of dirt track racing as well as the voice of several area dirt tracks. The opening prayer was a recording of the prayer that Stan gave every night that he announced, bringing a tug at the heart strings. Then, when the Star Spangled Banner was a recording of Stan’s magnificent voice I’m sure there were few dry eyes in the house. Knowing that it was the final time that I would hear that song, sung by The Voice of the Speedway teared me up also. As a special tribute to Stan, the purse for the IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car main event featured a $1,047 to win top prize and $347 to start referencing Stan’s Sprint  no. 47. The additional purse money and the memory of Stan brought a total of 137 cars to America’s Home Track, including several visiting [Read More]

Spahr wins from 11th at Port Royal

By Stephanie Dodson and Frank Buhrman PORT ROYAL, Pa. (June 22, 2024) – It was a performance reminiscent of a year ago for River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series defending champion Logan Spahr. Starting 11th in a strong field of IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, Spahr blasted through the field and took the lead from race-long frontrunner Doug Dodson with two laps to go, crossing under the checkered flags in front by 2.179 seconds for his second win of 2024 Saturday at Port Royal Speedway. That’s not in the same league as his performance last year, when Spahr won seven of the year’s first 10 races, but it was the team’s second of the year and at the least a hint of better things to come, and it was especially welcome with PASS’s return to Port Royal this weekend for the season’s biggest race, the Keystone RaceSaver Challenge. Despite the disappointment of not winning, it also was a boost for the veteran Dodson, who had scored top-10 finishes in six of seven starts this year but had [Read More]

Bade, Olson both win big at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (June 22, 2024) – Livin’ Life Full Throttle Night Saturday at Eagle Raceway was billed as a special show and turned out especially so for Shayle Bade and Geoff Olson. In memory of former track announcer and no. 47 sprint car owner Stan Cisar, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car winner Bade took home $1,047. Bade, the national points leader, passed Koby Werkmeister for the lead on lap 14, After a caution with five circuits to go, they’d trade slide jobs and the lead with Bade in front when the checkers flew. “It’s about time! It’s been a long while and this one, if you were here, it was slide job after slide job and in the end, it was who wanted it more,” she said. “I just knew I had to have patience, drive my race, hit my line and just wait for everything to happen.” “This was my first win since I lost my dad. That makes this a pretty special win right here, and I know he’s smiling down from above,” [Read More]

Bolac sprints to winged win at Dixieland

By Jim Haines ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (June 21, 2024) – Home track advantage worked out well for Daren Bolac, winner of the Fast Friday Virginia Sprint Series feature at Dixieland Speedway. Jerald Harris and Bolac paced the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature field to green on the hot summer night but the race track was perfect with multiple lanes, smooth and fast. Harris went to the lead and was staying low as Bolac went high and was all over Harris every lap with Matthew Leach staying in touch in third with a fast closing Chris Humblet in fourth. At lap 10, Bolac made the pass stick after many laps of the two swapping the lead every corner. Harris had to deal with Humblet but not for long as with 10 to go, Humblet got by and Bolac was in his sights as the two went at it. Bolac was committed to the high line for the race and Humblet stayed low or midtrack and every corner the lead was in doubt. With five to go, [Read More]
