Alley tops RaceSaver Sprints in return to Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 10, 2024) – For those of you who aren’t familiar with Billy Alley, he was a fixture at Eagle Raceway and other tracks until his father passed away in 2020. Alley decided to step away from the sport he loved and just came back to Eagle last week, finishing 11th in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car ‘B’ feature. Saturday night proved to be his triumphant return as Alley led every lap in winning the Work Hard, Play Hard Night main event, beating Stu Snyder, Gene Ackland and Jason Danley to the stripe in a green, white, checkered finish. “It’s a tough deal out here, racing against the cars at Eagle Raceway. When I stepped away I never thought I would be back,” said Alley. “I tried to figure out how many years I’ve been away from Eagle but I never thought  I was going to win a Sprint Car race again in my life, let alone here at Eagle Raceway. “It’s a pretty proud moment for me. I’m happy and grateful that Toby Chapman [Read More]

RaceSaver checkers fly at Arlington for Graf

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 10, 2024) – New cars in victory lane and a rain-free evening provided a great night of racing for the Back to School Kids’ Night at Arlington Raceway.  Hunter Hanson had some bad luck in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature as he had a commanding lead before his motor expired on lap four and he drove to the infield, ending up in a water hole off the front straightaway. Hannah Graf then took the lead on the restart with Brett Allen and Matt Johnson behind her racing side-by-side and trading second and third. Allen got to second and had his sights on Graf but it was Graf taking the checkered first with Allen following and Johnson in third. There were three different leaders in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature and close racing throughout the entire 15 laps. The early leader was Tony Stephensmeier, who saw Joey Reimers get around him on the third circuit. On the 10th lap, a tire was hit in turn four, causing a yellow flag. That [Read More]

Eagle win is career first for Cook

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 3, 2024) – Score a career-first Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature win at Eagle Raceway for Lauren Cook. The third-year hotshoe out of Lincoln led the distance of the Saturday show, and while competition for third through fifth places behind her was hot and heavy, Cook was in control green to checkers. “It does help starting on the front row. The track was really slick in (turns) three and four and really good in one and two,” she said. “I could get the car to turn and hit some good moisture but I was a little slow in three and four because it was so slick. I felt like I was going really slow like somebody should have been passing me, but they didn’t”. McLain Reed, Josh Pfeifer, Cole Wayman and Adam Vrbka completed the top five on the Stumpy’s Custom Creations and A1 Iron-presented Conquer the High Banks program. Chad Andersen topped the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds and Jason Danley took the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car checkers [Read More]

Big Wings, Big Excitement, Big Money: $12,000 is record payday for IMCA RaceSaver Nationals winner

EAGLE, Neb. (July 31, 2024) – The team at Eagle Raceway could add to the Big Wings, Big Excitement slogan used to promote the IMCA RaceSaver Nationals. The new slogan for the 12th annual event, scheduled Aug. 29-Sept. 1 at the Nebraska speed factory, would better be Big Wings, Big Excitement, Big Money. A record $12,000 will be paid to the winner of the Sunday night main event for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, courtesy of RaceSaver and IMCA. The big dance now pays a minimum of $1,600 to start with numerous contingency awards to be given as well. “This is the biggest event for the biggest class of Sprint Cars in the country and those numbers more than justify a $12,000 winner’s share and record-setting purse like this,” stated track operator and co-promoter Racine Hadan, noting that early entries are already in hand from more than 70 drivers coming everywhere from California to North Carolina. Qualifying heats for the BlueMax Pay-sponsored Race of Champions is on Thursday with that $1,000 to win, $300 to start race on Friday. Nine cars advance [Read More]

Lahr aces Arlington Sport Compact feature

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 27, 2024) – There was plenty of action on the track for Minnesota Farmfest Night Saturday at Arlington Raceway  After an early stoppage, there was a three-way battle for the lead in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Taylor Manderfield led until Chad Volk took over the race. He was holding off Cory Probst and Blake Luinenburg, who had started side-by-side in the fifth row. Volk felt the pressure and on lap seven Probst got around him to take over the lead. Luinenburg followed on the next lap. A yellow came out when Manderfield hit an infield tire in turn two, putting him to the back. When the race restarted Probst held onto the lead and took the win ahead of Luinenburg and Volk.  Two yellow flags occurred on the first lap of the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature. Dale Gatton took the early lead but Gary Schumacher was able to get around him to take over the lead and led until Alan Lahr got under him in turn four and took [Read More]

Weaver, Harris sprint to wins at Winchester

By Jim Haines WINCHESTER, Va. (July 27, 2024) – Winchester Speedway hosted a unique event in that with 40 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars signing in, the field would be split into two groups and for the field. Heat races kicked off the night with Reed Thompson and Landon Priced headed to feature one and Kolby Weaver and Zach Rhodes headed to feature two. Onto feature one with Kasey Weaver and Ken Duke Jr. pacing the field to green with Weaver out first and Duke right behind. The 20-lap feature was going by fast and even after a couple quick yellows for spinners, Weaver stayed steady and in control even with charges from Duke, who was holding off Austin Reed. With one to go the front of the field was nose to tail but Weaver would not waver and flashed under the checkered flag first. At the line it was Weaver, Duke, Reed and Brad Mellot making up the top five. Onto the second feature with Dale Schweikart and Caleb Harris at the front as the [Read More]

Saathoff makes it two straight at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (July 27, 2024) – Johnny Saathoff went old school and took his Friesen Performance IMCA Modified foes to class Saturday at Eagle Raceway. Saathoff led from lap two to the checkers, outrunning Clint Homan, Shawn Harker and Dustin Andersen following a caution with seven laps to go, for his second straight Eagle checkers. The win was also his career 361st in the division. “I’ve gone old school. I put in an open motor and got away from the crate engine. I’m just having a good time at Eagle Raceway with the track that Roger (Hadan) preps for all of us,” said Saathoff, who counts four crowns at Eagle among his record 26 track titles. “That cushion was nasty tonight and it got so slick in the middle that my crate engine would have been better, but we broke ours and I don’t feel like buying another one this year. I’m on my way out and trying to use up what I have.”  “I know (I’m only 61) but I keep saying [Read More]
