Southern SportMod Super Nationals conclude with $5,000 checkers at KSP

KENNEDALE, Texas (July 31, 2024) – You can almost predict what he’ll say, when you ask Kennedale Speedway Park promoter James Lopez about the upcoming IMCA Southern SportMod Super Nationals powered by Smiley’s Racing Products. The third annual event, scheduled Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 5-7, promises Lopez, will be super. The $5,000 to win, minimum $500 to start 30-lap main event on Saturday night is a shoo-in to feature the best drivers competing weekly in the division in Texas and Oklahoma. Total purse for the Big Dance is more than $20,000 with another $4,000-plus paid to drivers in Friday’s All-Star race. “Our qualifying format will be very similar to last year,” Lopez said. “One thing that we’re doing differently is a fan vote to add one driver to the All-Star race and a different driver will be elected to start at the back in the $5,000 to win main event.” Pre-registration for drivers to be vote eligible is required by Aug. 14: Voting will be conducted on MyRacePass and starts Aug. 16 for the All-Star [Read More]

Allstar Performance renews heat race win awards for 15th IMCA sponsorship season

WATERVLIET, Mich. (July 30, 2024) – The heat race win decals adorning IMCA race cars coast to coast and border to border again come courtesy of Allstar Performance. Drivers themselves must take the next step in making themselves eligible for post-season awards from the Watervliet, Mich., high performance parts manufacturer and 15-year IMCA sponsor. Heat race winner decals were distributed to all IMCA tracks at the beginning of the 2024 race season. Drivers winning 10 or more heat races this year receive $100 gift cards. The driver, regardless of division, winning the most heat races gets a $250 gift card. “What drivers have to do to become eligible for that $100 gift card, perhaps even the $250 car, is email a photo of their car proving heat race winner decal placement to me at contingencies@imca.com,” explained IMCA Marketing Integration and Sponsorship Director Carson Becker-Gramm. “All Star Performance gift cards will be presented during the IMCA national banquet in November or mailed beginning the following week.” IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock driver Cody Williams of Minneapolis, Kan., was [Read More]

It’s déjà vu as McGaha wins on same night as another son gets first career victory at Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (June 29, 2024) – He’s won a lot of championships and a lot of big races, but Josh McGaha says nothing beats winning the same night his sons got their career-first feature wins. And now he’s done it twice. McGaha had made his own visit to victory lane at hometown Abilene Speedway following the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature on May 18, then watched son Gavin Faulks top the Smiley’s Racing Products IMCA Southern SportMod main. Fast forward to June 29 at Abilene, when McGaha raced to IMCA Modified career win number 113 and cheered son Jaxon on to his first Southern SportMod checkers. “We could end the season right now and it would be on a high note. I got to win both nights both my boys got their first wins,” McGaha said. “I’ve qualified for the main event at Super Nationals, I’ve won a regional championship, I’ve won a lot (eight) of track championships and I’ve won a lot of big races,” he continued. “I’d trade all that to win on the [Read More]
