Six track champions crowned at Marshalltown Speedway

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug. 16, 2024) – It was the N 3rd Avenue Dairy Queen Larry Wollam Season Championship night Friday at Marshalltown Speedway and six track champions were crowned.  Out-of-car introductions were made for all features. The point leader in each division drew for the way the feature would be lined up …4, 6, 8 or the complete field inverted.   First to the track were the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. The draw was for the field to be inverted. Six extra laps were added making it a 22-lap main event and putting point leader Brayton Carter to start at the rear. When the race went green, it was outside front row starter Ryan Leeman taking the lead.  A yellow flew on lap three when Will Wolf lost a wheel and by this time Carter had already made his way up to third place. When the race picked back up, Carter wasted no time in moving forward again and had the lead when lap five went in the books. It was all Carter’s race from there [Read More]

Meyer, Smith, Hanselman all find first 2024 victories at Hancock County

By Chad Meyer BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 16, 2024) – Races Friday night were sponsored by John Furst Construction and the Hancock County Snowmobile Association and featured a gold rush on the front straight that featured over $500 in coins for the kids.  Nick Meyer’s season at the Hancock County Speedway didn’t start until after mid-season, and he captured his first Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature of the year on Friday. Over the last five laps he pulled away from second place finisher Kelly Shryock. Jeremy Mills pressured the top three early but had to settle for third over Cody Knecht.  Shryock won the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main but had to hold off a quick Colby Fett to do it. Fett found the bottom to be faster, however Shryock moved his line down just in time to prevent Fett from getting past. Behind Fett was a fast Kevin Ophiem in third while Justin Ades finished fourth.  In the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, Doug Smith capitalized on his return to Britt and led every lap. Winebarger wows Cottage Grove crowd

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (Aug. 14, 2024) – Collen Winebarger brought a thrilling finish to the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event, to win on the last lap in the latest round of the Midweek Mayhem Series at Cottage Grove Speedway. The outside pole starter seized the initial race lead in the 25-lap finale but that reign was short-lived as reigning track champion Jake Mayden powered around him the next time around the 1/4-mile clay oval. When things slowed down due to a caution, things heated right back up on the restart as Winebarger was back into the trailblazing role and scored the leader on lap 12. The race stayed green for a couple more trips past the flag stand before the final yellow flag came out with six to go. This restart would set up an exciting finish. When the race resumed, Winebarger was under threat from Carter Patterson. The competition was intense, with Patterson making several attempts to overtake the leader. After several laps, Patterson finally got in an excellent rhythm [Read More]

Late restart opens door for Schmuhl at Angell Park

By Ben Deatherage SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (Aug. 11, 2024)—Taking advantage of a late-race restart, Jeff Schmuhl topped the $1,000 to win King of the Park feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds at Angell Park Speedway.  It was the second-ever visit for the division to visit “The Prairie” and the win made Schmuhl eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Trent Wyssbrod had set the early pace, mastering the bottom of the racetrack and then pulling away from the pack for the majority of the 20-lap main event. Despite being slowed down by three cautions, he continued to outpace his challengers on the restarts. However, the final restart would spice things up considerably. When the green light came on for the final time, with six laps to go, Schmuhl moved around Dan Roedl for second place and then set his sights on Wyssbrod, launching a formal challenge on the 15th circuit. The two battled fiercely, but Schmuhl had the advantage by a whisker on lap 16. Schmuhl then checked out to be first to [Read More]
