Wahoo Ends Shryock’s Streak in Stock Cars at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 31, 2025) — Kossuth County Speedway hosted a thrilling Thursday night program for the Harken/Hovinga Memorial Race. In the Sunoco IMCA Stock Car feature, Loren Pesicka Jr. took the early lead before giving way to Mike “Wahoo” Albertsen just two laps in. Behind him, a heated battle for second brewed between McCain Jennings, Kelly Shryock, David Wickman, Calvin Lange and Pesicka. Shryock eventually won that battle and slowly began reeling in Albertsen by the halfway point of the 20-lap main. With four laps remaining, Shryock was right on Albertsen’s rear bumper when a caution flew for a Zayn Feaster spin. Shryock threw everything he had at Albertsen on the restart, but the Audubon driver held his ground to score his second win of the season at Algona. The victory also snapped Shryock’s personal six-race win streak at the track. Albertsen now owns 10 overall wins in 2025, including eight in the EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region. Shryock was second and Jennings crossed the line third. Krug Collects Second Win of [Read More]

A lap 10 restart brought Friday night winner Jake Nelson and past Coal County Classic and Tony Kniffen Memorial champion Dalton Flory into the mix. On lap 22, Williams and Flory went side-by-side, with Flory briefly grabbing the lead on lap 23. But Flory drifted high in turn two, allowing Williams to capitalize and reclaim the top spot. Sporting his Salute To Veterans Tour wrap Williams led the final circuits to earn his first EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region win of the season, his sixth overall victory in 2025, and first win since May. Nigh Notches First 2025 Late Model Win in Wild Maquoketa Finish

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Aug. 2, 2025) — The Sunoco IMCA Late Models at Maquoketa Speedway saw front row starter Doug Nigh and 10th-starting Evan Miller swap the lead several times throughout the 25-lap feature. As the laps wound down with the two still battling for the top spot, a late race caution set up a three-lap dash to the finish. The lead pack behind Nigh was scrambled, and Logan Veloz made a last-minute charge to finish right on the heels of Nigh. Nigh scored his first win of the season, while Miller held on for third ahead of Bryce Garnhart. Schueller Goes Flag-to-Flag for First Maquoketa Modified Victory The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds saw a strong field of 18 drivers take the green flag for their 20-lap feature. Jason Schueller took the green from the pole and led the main event flag-to-flag. Hogge Gets Ocean Modified Win in Final Turn Thriller

By Steven Blakesley WATSONVILLE, Calif. (Aug. 2, 2025) — Bobby Hogge of Salinas extended his points lead in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds at Ocean Speedway, leading only the final corner for a thrilling victory in the 25-lap feature. Nevada’s Kaetlyn Robertson held off numerous challenges from Jacob Mallet Jr., withstanding the pressure to lead the first 13 laps of competition. Robert Marsh then drove past Mallet into second and took the lead from Robertson on lap 14. Hogge, who started seventh, followed Marsh through the field to take over the second spot. The duo ran nose to tail for the final 11 circuits. Marsh was slowed by lapped traffic coming into turn three on the final lap, allowing Hogge to dive underneath and steal the win out of turn four. The dramatic finish gave Hogge his sixth win of the year at the Watsonville ¼-mile and his ninth in the Shaw Race Cars Western Region in 2025. Mallet finished third. Mackenthun Masters Arlington Sibley County Stock Car Shootout for Huge Payday

By Susan Allen ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 30, 2025) — Dan Mackenthun made the most of a big night at his home track, scoring the biggest win of his career during the Sibley County Fair Stock Car Shootout at Arlington Raceway. The Sunoco IMCA Stock Car special paid $5,000 to win, and Mackenthun racked up an additional $1,725 for leading 23 of the 30 laps, plus a $100 bonus for his heat race win. His dominant effort also locked him into the prestigious B&B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational at this year’s Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. The triumph marked Mackenthun’s seventh of the season in the EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region and his fourth at the Arlington ½-mile. A stout field of 36 Stock Cars battled for a share of the $30,000 purse. Jake McBirnie paced the opening seven laps before a caution gave Mackenthun the opportunity he needed. Starting fifth, Mackenthun had already climbed to second by lap one and wasted no time slipping past McBirnie on the ensuing restart. Another yellow came [Read More]

Williamson Wires Cottage Grove Modified Midweek Mayhem

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 30, 2025) — Kevin Williamson dominated Wednesday night’s 25-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at Cottage Grove Speedway, becoming the third different winner in as many rounds of the 2025 Midweek Mayhem Series. Piloting the Superior Fuel Cells-backed no. 42, the Coburg racer scored his second victory of the season at CGS and in the Shaw Race Cars Western Region. Williamson grabbed the lead on the opening start and quickly separated himself from the rest of the field. He encountered light lapped traffic on lap eight but didn’t skip a beat as he built a commanding advantage. Things got interesting late as heavier traffic came into play with just three laps to go, but the five-time and reigning track champion Jake Mayden, wheeling the Dustin Brooks-owned no. 5M, couldn’t close the gap. Jesse Williamson, a multi-time IMCA Wild West Speedweek champion and older brother to the winner, finished third aboard the SDMF Customs no. W5 house car. By Ben Deatherage BOONE, Iowa (July 26, 2025) — Dylan Thornton outdueled Kollin Hibdon in the late stages of a thrilling Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event Saturday at Boone Speedway, earning his first career win on the Hunting with Heroes Salute to Veterans Tour powered by Performance Bodies & Parts. The reigning Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s champion in both the Modified and Late Model divisions, originally from California and now living in Belle Plaine, Iowa, scored his fourth overall win of 2025 in the Modifieds and second in the Razor Chassis North Central Region — both at Boone. Thornton got the jump from the drop of the green and quickly set the tone, but multiple cautions early on interrupted the flow. California transplant Trevor Fitz, the 2019 IMCA California State champion, and eight-time defending Hancock County Speedway track champion Jeremy Mills fought hard for second before Thornton began to check out.
