Miles family takes two wins at Maquoketa Speedway

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 18, 2024) – Saturday night, McMahon Salvage sponsored the Maquoketa Speedway racing program by adding bonus money to the Hobby Stock and Stock car main events and both of those feature events were won by members of the racing Miles family. The leader of the pack, Jerry Miles collected the bonus money in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars while graduating senior Jordan Miles collected the bonus money by winning the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Twenty IMCA Sunoco Late Models took the green and their 25 lapper went flag-to-flag with great action throughout the entire race. Travis Denning took the lead at the dropping of the green and appeared to have the feature win within his grasp until late in the race before the leaders encountered lapped traffic. Marshalltown checkers are first in Iowa for Corn

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 17, 2024) – It was a beautiful night for racing at the Marshalltown Speedway Friday with 127 cars checked in. Drew Janssen came home with the win in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds and Garrett Corn saw victory lane for the first time in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Kyle Olson took top honors in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and Eric Knutson was the winner in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Ben George won the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lite feature and it was Jeremy Williams taking the checkers in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts. Mod Lites ran the first feature of the night, going 15 laps. George dominated this race, taking the lead on lap two, and never giving it up. It’s Shute in a thriller at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 18, 2024) – A beautiful night for racing greeted drivers and fans Saturday at Boone Speedway. Todd Shute took the win in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, in a race that will be talked about as one of the best ever witnessed. Dusty Van Horn took to the top shelf of the track in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and never looked back. Dustin Lynch also took a fans on their feet win at the line in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. It was Mike Smith back in familiar victory lane in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Josh May, in the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lites, took his first win of the season at the track. Mod Lites ran their 15-lap main event to kick off the feature racing of the night. Jason Toppenberg led the first six laps of the race but defending track champion May was challenging him. Mroczkowski mauls Outagamie Stock Car foes

By Joe Verdegan SEYMOUR, Wis. (May 17, 2024) – Josh Mroczkowski’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win at Outagamie Speedway Friday night was beyond impressive for a couple of reasons. For starters, the Krakow racer’s margin of victory at the checkers was a mere .028 seconds. What’s more, Mroczkowski fought off a pair of former IMCA national champions to the line in the process – Pulaski drivers Rod Snellenberger and Brandon Czarapata. Mroczkowski started inside row two of the 20 lap contest and wrestled the lead away from Keegan Van Ooyen on lap four. As the laps clicked off, Snellenberger and Czarapata, who started in the fifth and sixth rows, respectively, began methodically picking off their opponents one-by-one and began to gradually reel in the Krakow Ace. A late race caution bunched up the field, and despite Snellenberger’s best efforts Mroczkowski beat Snellenberger at the line by mere inches. Kemper, Madden, Wyett score big CJ wins

by Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 17, 2024) – Mother Nature provided a perfect evening for dirt track racing at CJ Speedway Friday evening. The night started off with the conclusion of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event that was suspended one week earlier by rains that fell with five laps scored. The main event picked up on lap six with Luke Phillips leading the pack to the green on the restart. Phillips went on to lead the final seven laps for the win while a whole lot of racing went on for the runner-up spot. At the checkers it was a family affair as Shane Richardson took second ahead of John Richardson with Jason Shutterle crossing under the checkers in fourth. Shryock doubles down at Hancock County

By Chad Meyer BRITT, Iowa (May 17, 2024) – Kelly Shryock drove his way to the front twice Friday night during the School’s Out for Summer event, sponsored by Trulson Auto Parts & Service at Hancock County Speedway. In the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, Shryock started sixth and ran down early leader Todd Stinehart, who stayed close through the midpoint of the race until Shryock was able to pull away over the late stages. Jeremy Mills got around Stinehart at the end to finish second. In the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Shryock wheeled the topside of the speedway from the 10th starting spot to capture the win. It wasn’t easy, though, as early leader Heath Tulp would not go away and raced to Shryock’s inside several times late but couldn’t return to the lead. Garrigan, Nielsen are best at Black Hills

By Ben Deatherage RAPID CITY, S.D. (May 17, 2024) – Black Hills Speedway fired things up with incredible racing Friday night, with IMCA feature wins going to John Garrigan Jr. and Brent Nielsen. When the main event for IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks kicked off, Brett Konst was a force to be reckoned with, shooting ahead of the pack and leaving Garrigan and Alan McNeil to battle it out for the runner-up position. As the caution-free race continued, it seemed like Konst was on a direct path to victory. But Garrigan launched a daring charge, closing the gap between himself and the leader. The final lap was a nail-biting duel, with Garrigan snatching the win from Konst by a mere three one hundreths of a second. Konst was second while McNeil was scored in third. 45 years of the IMCA Modified celebrated May 24-26 at Marshalltown, Boone, Vinton

VINTON, Iowa (May 17, 2024) – It’s a three-night event 45 years in the making and it plays out at three of the tracks where IMCA has been part of weekly racing programs for decades. Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds are the spotlight division in $2,000 to win 45th Anniversary events Friday, May 24 at Marshalltown Speedway and Saturday, May 25 at Boone Speedway, then chase a top check on $4,500 and $400 to start in the Sunday, May 26 show at Benton County Speedway. The first-ever IMCA Modified feature was held in Vinton on June 2, 1979; the division crowned its first track champion at Boone in 1983 and at Marshalltown in 1984. Everything right for Wagner’s first IMCA win

JEFFERSON, S.D. (May 16, 2024) – The right track, the right car and the right driving style all combined to put Dan Wagner in Park Jefferson Speedway’s victory lane Thursday night. Wagner topped the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature for his career-first feature win in any class, holding off Matt Bonine in the final circuits. “It was very satisfying because of all the hard work we’ve put in,” said Wagner, who raced in 2001 and in 2007 before taking off 15 years to follow his five kids’ multitude of activities. “We have an old-style driving style in a modern era and that’s a little like oil and water.” Wagner ran a Harris car in his 2022 and 2023 Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod campaigns.
