McBirnie from 19th to the win at Iowa’s Action Track

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 20, 2023) – Jake McBirnie hotshoed it all the way from 19th to win the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature on a beautiful Saturday night for racing at Boone Speedway. Nick Roberts jumped to the lead from his outside front row starting spot when the green flag flew. Izac Mallicoat started third and tucked in behind the leader. A caution flew on lap 13 and on the restart, Todd Shute got around Mallicoat to take over the second spot. A couple laps later, bad luck would bite Shute when he spun in corner one.  As the restart of that caution went green, suddenly it was McBirnie sitting in second place after making his way from the 19th starting spot. A lap later, McBirnie threw a perfectly executed slider in turn two and had the lead with three laps remaining. It was all McBirnie’s race the final circuits as he captured his first win at the track this season. Mallicoat kept second place, third went to Nick Roberts, veteran Russ Dickerson was fourth and [Read More]

Logue delivers opening night sweep at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (May 21, 2023) – Johnathon Logue has won many races in his career, but none had come at Benton County Speedway. That all changed Sunday night when he made his first visit to victory lane at The Bullring.  And then his second. Logue took top honors in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Christie Door Company and followed that up by winning the main event for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds presented by Beatty Excavating. While both races resulted in victories for Logue, the path he took was different in each. At the drop of the green in the 15-lap Stock Car main, Logue left little doubt he was the man to beat. He quickly distanced himself from the pack to take the checkers by five seconds ahead of his nearest competitors in the caution-free event. Kaden Reynolds made a late push to nip Casey Woken by mere thousandths of a second at the line for second. John Oliver Jr. ran fourth. Logue also led at the on-set of the 20-lap Modified feature, [Read More]

Anthony Clark used the middle of the track to get the lead on lap 11 just as the last caution of the race flew, setting up a three-lap dash to the finish. Clark looked strong as he led on the white flag lap, but Sabin muscled under him cleanly and stole the lead and the win out of turn four. Clark settled for second with Bickford third, Owen Richards fourth and Curtis Masterson fifth.  IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars were next up with Ty Hill and Robbie [Read More]

Off Road checkers fly for Wilkinson, Bruhn

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (May 13, 2023) – While their starting spots differed, Kyle Wilkinson and Anthony Bruhn both ended their night Saturday in the same place. Victory lane at Off Road Speedway. Making the longest journey to the front was Wilkinson in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Wilkinson traveled quickly from the fifth row into contention while, for the first few laps, a cluster of six cars jockeyed for position. Although he got into the lead by passing Nate DeSive, Wilkinson had just one lap as the leader before the race’s first caution grouped DeSive and Tejay Mielke, as well as Cameron Wilkinson, close behind. That tight grouping maintained itself for another handful of laps before Kyle Wilkinson pulled away by several car lengths and, despite three laps of three-wide and side-by-side pursuit, so did the cars behind him. Wilkinson then maintained his advantage, leading his brother Cameron and Mielke to the finish line during the final 10 laps and earning his first Off Road Speedway win of the season. The [Read More]
