ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 14, 2025) — Austin Schrage and Chad Palmer led the Sunoco IMCA Stock Car field to the green, with Palmer pacing the opening five laps. Two early cautions slowed the action, but once the race found rhythm, Palmer had his hands full with a high-flying McCain Jennings.

By the halfway point, a thrilling three-car battle emerged between Palmer, Mike Albertsen, and Jennings. Working the top side, Jennings powered into the lead on lap 11 and never looked back. Palmer held second with Albertsen third. Jennings, who charged from 14th starting, earned hard-charger honors and celebrated his second EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of the year — both at Algona.

Emotional Hobby Stock Win for Wickman

The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock feature delivered one of the most emotional moments of the season. Darin Johnson led the early laps before Steve Wickman made his move to the front on lap 11.

Wickman then held off a late charge from Brandon Nielsen in a green-white-checkered finish to secure his first victory of the year in the B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region. Nielsen and Johnson were second and third, respectively.

The win carried special significance for Wickman and his family. His grandmother Marilyn, a devoted racing supporter who had not missed her family’s events in 42 years, had been battling health issues. She passed away later that evening, shortly after his triumph.

Appel Rallies Late to Take SportMod Main

The Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods ran caution-free for 15 laps. Drew Fett led the opening circuits while Josh Appel methodically reeled him in.

With five laps remaining, Appel made his move to the front and never wavered, scoring his second feature win at Algona this season. It marked his fifth victory overall in 2025. Alec Fett crossed the line second, followed by his father, Drew, in third.

Meyer Masters Modified Thriller Over Mills

Zander Keeland led the opening lap of the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature before Nick Meyer jumped to the front on lap two. A string of cautions kept the field tight, including incidents on laps 11, 15, and 18.

On the final restart, Jeremy Mills threw a daring slider on Meyer, briefly seizing command before pushing wide out of turn two. Meyer capitalized, slipping back past Mills in the final corner to secure the win. It was Meyer’s third victory of the season in the Razor Chassis North Central Region, with two coming at Kossuth County Speedway. Mills settled for second while Jayden Larson rounded out the podium in third.

Fitzgerald Charges to Third Compact Win at Algona

Evan Ewaldt led the opening lap of the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature before Brooke Osler took over following a complete restart. While Osler looked strong, Slade Fitzgerald carved his way through the seven-car field from the tail.

Fitzgerald caught Osler with two to go and surged past the following lap to secure his fifth sanctioned victory of 2025 and third at Algona. Osler settled for second, Charles Prime third.
