Olmstead Does It Again with Last-Lap Pass in Hobby Stocks

COLBY, Kan. (May 9, 2025) — The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks produced a thrilling finish at Thomas County Speedway as Zach Olmstead made a dramatic last-lap pass to edge his brother Morgan Olmstead for the victory. Levi Jones led the early laps before the Olmstead brothers and Dylan Bell surged forward.

Zach completed the winning move out of turn four, nipping Morgan at the line for his sixth win of the season in nine attempts in the B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region. Dylan Bell crossed the stripe in third after charging up eight positions.

Burkhart Celebrates First Win as a “Grandpa” in Stock Cars

“Gentle Giant” Troy Burkhart secured an emotional win in the Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars feature at Colby, his first victory as a new grandfather. Burkhart, who previously scored wins in Hays and WaKeeney, overtook early leader Keith Stegman and fended off strong challenges from Quinton Yutterman and his son, Tathan Burkhart, in a 20-lap battle.

The victory was Troy Burkhart’s third in the EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region. Yutterman climbed six spots to claim second, while Tathan Burkhart finished third after a solid run.

Belec Shines in Modifieds for First Win of 2025

Eddie Belec stormed through the field from row four to grab his first Friesen Performance IMCA Modified win of the season at Thomas County Speedway and in the Jet Racing Central Region. Belec quickly worked his way forward, passing John Fabrizius and Lloyd Stover before holding off a hard-charging Dylan Sherfick.

Sherfick rallied to second, gaining seven spots in a strong run, while Clay Money also moved up seven positions to claim third.

Barnhart Stays Unbeaten in SportMods

Josh Barnhart remained perfect in Colby after securing his second straight Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod win. Barnhart battled through multiple restarts and challenges from Adam Weber and Blaine Walt before taking the checkers.

Weber finished second, holding off a surging Brianna Maughlin.

Porter Goes Back-to-Back in Sport Compacts

Gage Porter picked up his second straight Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact win at Thomas County Speedway after a fierce battle with Brock Leibhart. The two drivers traded the lead throughout the 12-lap main, with Porter holding strong to score the victory.

Leibhart, who gained one position in a solid run, settled for second, while Kyle Mortensen rounded out the podium after moving up two spots.
