COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (April 23) – Cottage Grove Speedway was in action for the Spring Fling doubleheader weekend and while wet weather washed away the Saturday program, Bricen James topped the IMCA Modified main event on Friday . 

Paul Rea set the pace in the first few laps.  The Eugene veteran was at the point of the pack until lap three when Jeffrey Hudson got around him.  Hudson, from the central Oregon town of Keno and racing for car owner Don Roemer, stayed there for the majority of the race. 

Hudson was overtaken late, on lap 18, by Albany’s Bricen James.  James had to deal with a couple of stoppages which meant he had to deal with a handful of restarts.  Bricen mastered each of them and the seventh starting driver went on to win his first race of the 2021 campaign.

Corbett chauffeur Collen Winebarger got second while third place was credited to Curtis Towns, of Cottage Grove.  Albany’s Matthew Drager and Otis teenager Eston Whisler were fourth and fifth in the finishing order.

Cottage Grove Speedway returns to racing on Saturday, May 1st for the Froggy 44 Tribute To Melvin Walker. This is the biggest Mach-1 Sport Compact event of the season and pas $444 to win. IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods will also be on the card.

Mayden, Bloom, Ashley find the right groove at The Grove

(July 18) – For the second occasion in 2020, the engines roared at Cottage Grove Speedway with a full pit area at the historical ¼-mile clay oval Saturday night. More than 30 IMCA Modifieds inhabited the house for their second race of the year and Jake Mayden had his way with the field in earning his first local checkers of 2020.  John Campos wound up second with third going to Bricen James.  The Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods would witness a giant-slaying as  Hunter Bloom was large and in charge of the main event.  The Eugene racer took control of the lead on lap one and remained there after the final circuit.  It marked the first occasion that Bloom has graced victory lane in the division at The Grove. James, Comer capture opening night wins at Cottage Grove

By Stephanie Deatherage   COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (May 29) – Bricen James and Dustin Comer were IMCA winners on night one of Cottage Grove Speedway’s Memorial Weekend doubleheader. The 25-lap IMCA Modified main event began with a couple of cautions before the competition could complete the first lap. However, once green flag action unfolded, Jesse Williamson paced the pack.  Williamson held on to the position until lap seven.   Bricen James was the man to overtake Williamson and started to pull away from the field.  A late-race caution on lap 22 kept the cars all tightly knit together and set up a late-race restart.  James then held on to win his second race of the season at CGS and his first since April 23.   John Campos and Curtis Towns were second and third.  Jake Mayden ended his night fourth while Grey Ferrando came out of the “B” main as well as an earlier setback from a flat tire to finish fifth.  And in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods, Theran Trissell was the initial race leader.  Trissell stayed in front until Ray Bloom [Read More]

Williamson sweeps CGS Mark Howard Memorial Weekend

(July 31) – Night two of the Mark Howard Memorial Cottage Grove Speedway IMCA Modified Nationals took place on Saturday, July 31.    The 52-lap, $2,600 to win feature started off with Jesse Williamson obtaining the lead on the initial start. After that, the Coburg chauffeur reigned supreme against the competition but did have to be smart on the restarts. As a result, eight total stoppages occurred, including four in the last dozen circuits. There were points in which lapped traffic was caught and Williamson was briefly challenged; he flexed his muscle against the field from those times on. Nevertheless, Williamson swept the weekend en route to his record seven Mark Howard Memorial Cottage Grove Speedway titles. Already Fast Shals All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible, Williamson has amassed an impressive five straight wins to his credit, going back to Independence Day, when he was victorious for the first time in 2021.
