SYCAMORE, Ill. – A company already well-known in drag racing circles becomes a contingency award sponsor for six IMCA divisions in 2018.
AutoMeter, the Sycamore, Ill.-based competition instrument and accessories manufacturer, gives $50 gift certificates to designated top five finishing drivers at 80 designated specials for IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Late Models, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Southern SportMods.
Mechanical 2 or 3-gauge panel sets go to the runners-up in all main events at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s and the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Nationals.
The company was founded in Elgin, Ill., in 1957 and relocated to Sycamore in 1979.
“We have been heavily involved in drag racing for a long time,” explained AutoMeter Director of Motorsports Marc Erickson. “We want to become more involved with the short track market and focus on the Saturday night racer.”
“We like the different divisions IMCA has and the support they receive from their racers,” he added. “IMCA is the type of organization we want to get behind.”
AutoMeter will be represented on manufacturers’ row at Super Nationals in September. Erickson, a second generation driver who got his start in a stock car class in 2007 and now competes in a super street drag car, will add trips to more IMCA events as track schedules are completed.
“What I’ve enjoyed most about this sport is the people,” he said. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the racing and I’ve made a lot of friends.”
AutoMeter gift certificates will be mailed from the IMCA home office within a week after official race results are received.
Information about the complete line of AutoMeter products, including the new EEG series gauge with waterproof warning lights, and dealer network is available by calling 866 248-6356, the www.autometer.com website and on Facebook.
“AutoMeter is a well-respected name in the industry and we are excited to announce their support for the 2018 racing season,” commented IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder. “This new program will add contingency depth to many of our special events across the nation this year and they look forward to showcasing their products at Boone in September.”
