Points paces opening night of Western SportMod Nationals

(July 11, 2024) – Thursday was the inaugural Western SportMod Nationals opening leg at Yreka Speedway for one of the country’s biggest paying Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod races. Over 50 entries from across the country journeyed to the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds ¼-mile clay oval. Buddy Kniss took an early lead at the start of the feature. The race heated up a few laps in as Ethan Killingsworth moved unsuccessfully to overtake the second-running Trevor Points. The tension was broken when a caution was raised after six circuits. Points launched a challenge for the lead against Kniss as the race resumed. The two engaged in a fierce battle, with Points eventually seizing the top spot, on lap nine. Meanwhile, a race for third unfolded between Killingsworth and Jeffrey Hudson, who eventually secured the position. On lap 11, Killingsworth rebounded beautifully with a brilliant double overtake past Hudson and Kniss to become the new runner-up. Win at Mandan is record-setter for Berry, Braaksma clinches IMCA Dakota Tour title

MANDAN, N.D. (July 11, 2024) – Tom Berry Jr.’s second win of the week was one for the record book. Ethan Braaksma’s third runner-up finish was good for a championship. Berry led every lap of Thursday’s Dakota Classic Modified Tour powered by Industrial Electric main event at Dacotah Speedway, his career 10th Friesen Performance IMCA Modified victory breaking the previous record held by Ricky Thornton Jr. and dating from 2006, when IMCA resumed sanctioning the tour. “It’s pretty incredible, to know what Ricky has done in his career and to pass a record like that,” Berry said. “I know he holds a lot of ‘em and we’re trying to break them. Cottage Grove wraps up 2024 Freedom Cup

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 6, 2024) – Cottage Grove Speedway was in action for the third and final night of the 2024 Freedom Cup mini-series on Saturday. Feature winners during the evening were Curtis Towns in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds and Jesse Williamson in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. The Modified main got off to a thrilling start as Steven Sturdevant and Braedon Hand battled in the opening corner and Kevin Williamson made it a three-wide tussle for first place in turns three and four. Hand was first at the line on the opening lap while Towns made a blitzing move to grab second just before a lap two yellow. Towns pursed Hand after the restart with several challenges underneath the leader. As the frontrunners squared off, Paul Rea stayed close behind waiting for his own opportunity. Lamphere wins NY-Penn Series thriller at Selinsgrove

(July 7, 2024) – The Close Racing Supply NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by Insinger Performance got its second race scheduled at Selinsgrove Speedway in and the Sunday show did not disappoint. Keith Lamphere pocketed $100 after leading his heat race flag to flag, then followed with the $1,000 Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature win, his first of the season and good for Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility. Rodney Morgan and Jacob McConnell brought the feature field to green and Morgan took off with the lead on the initial start. Morgan looked to be the dominant car throughout the feature, only being challenged for the lead by fellow Alpha Chassis driver Jared Spalding. With two laps to go, however, Morgan gave up the lead to Lamphere, who pulled away and won ahead of Morgan and Spalding. Big payouts, great cause this Sunday at Benton County Speedway’s 10th Urbana 5

VINTON, Iowa (July 10, 2024) – Benton County Speedway marks a milestone event this Sunday, hosting the 10th annual Urbana 5 Memorial. Five IMCA sanctioned divisions are on the card for the July 14 special, held to remember the five area youth killed in a 2015 traffic accident near Urbana, and to encourage people to become organ and tissue donors. An Iowa Donor Network representative will be located in a booth under the grandstand at The Bullring that evening. Kids can enter one of two drawings, for a bicycle or for another prize, while adults can purchase tickets for $2 each or three for $5 for a chance to win a Blackstone grill and accessories. WORTHINGTON, Minn. (July 10, 2024) – Worthington Speedway and the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division remember one of their own next Tuesday. The July 16 Jim Larson Memorial main event for The Class Too Tough To Tame pays out a top prize of $5,000 and a minimum of $250 to start, with the winner earning a guaranteed starting spot in the upcoming B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational as well. Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods are also on the card, racing for $3,000 to win. WILLISTON, N.D. (July 9, 2024) – He’s won a lot of big races in his career and Kyle Strickler has to rank his first Dakota Classic Modified Tour powered by Industrial Electric victory among them. Strickler stalked and caught up with long-time leader Kollin Hibdon, finally making the pass to the front on the 30th and final lap in winning Tuesday’s Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event at Williston Basin Speedway. “This is about as good as it gets,” Strickler said after taking the $2,000 checkers six tenths of a second ahead of Hibdon, who’d won the opening night show Sunday at Nodak Speedway. “Kollin is really, really good on the top.
