Sobbing wins inaugural Ray Haase Tribute Race

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (July 3, 2024) – Off Road Speedway hosted a special event Wednesday night honoring Ray “the Hummer” Haase, a long-time racer who, with his brother Robert, were the founders of Riviera Raceway. As part of the ceremony, Haase’s well-known No. 02 car served as a pace car leading 21 IMCA Sunoco Late Models through parade laps just before the start of the inaugural Ray Haase Tribute Race at Off Road Speedway. The feature race, won by Jesse Sobbing, finished a weather-abbreviated program of heat races, time trials, and “B” features in six classes, with features to be completed on Friday, July 12 along with a regular night of racing. Four qualifying trials and an equal number of heats pared the 34 Late Models entries from Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois into a starting field which included a number of prominent drivers, including Cory Dumpert and Anthony Roth, the top two points leaders at Off Road Speedway, along with Sobbing, Tad Pospisil, and Justin Zeitner. It’s déjà vu as McGaha wins on same night as another son gets first career victory at Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (June 29, 2024) – He’s won a lot of championships and a lot of big races, but Josh McGaha says nothing beats winning the same night his sons got their career-first feature wins. And now he’s done it twice. McGaha had made his own visit to victory lane at hometown Abilene Speedway following the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature on May 18, then watched son Gavin Faulks top the Smiley’s Racing Products IMCA Southern SportMod main. Fast forward to June 29 at Abilene, when McGaha raced to IMCA Modified career win number 113 and cheered son Jaxon on to his first Southern SportMod checkers. “We could end the season right now and it would be on a high note. I got to win both nights both my boys got their first wins,” McGaha said. “I’ve qualified for the main event at Super Nationals, I’ve won a regional championship, I’ve won a lot (eight) of track championships and I’ve won a lot of big races,” he continued. “I’d trade all that to win on the [Read More]

By Ben Deatherage WHITE CITY, Ore. (June 29, 2024) – Always consistent at Southern Oregon Speedway, Matt Sanders sped to his first Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature win at White City this season on night two of the Bigfoot Weekend presented by Toyota. On the restart, Andy Freeman moved up to third just before the yellow flag returned for the second stoppage of the main event. When things got underway again, Braaten took over third while Ethan Killingsworth was all over Freeman for fourth. Shields and Braaten battled for the runner-up position before Shields had to bow out early due to mechanical issues on lap seven. By Ben Deatherage CHICO, Calif. (June 28, 2024) – Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods returned to Silver Dollar Speedway for their third visit of the 2024 campaign and Tyler Rodgers returned to victory lane following their Friday night feature. Rodgers took control when the green flag was unleashed. The Chico chauffeur beat Shaun Merritt from the front row. Before too long, Ray Lindeman got around Merritt for second. The caution came out for the first time with two laps scored complete, which tightened up the field.   Lindeman secured second as Rodgers again took off. Mike Ficklin Sr. tried to chase down Lindeman for second but that battle came to a halt with five circuits complete due to another yellow. However, on the restart, as Rodgers and Lindeman checked out, Ficklin was under fire for third as Scott Savell made it around him with seven laps complete. Friske, Garrigan race back to Black Hills victory lane

By Ben Deatherage RAPID CITY, S.D. – Connor Friske and John Garrigan Jr. were back in victory lane after Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars were back in action Friday at Black Hills Speedway. When the green flag was released to the Modifieds, Adam Boggs won the battle going into turn one, but the yellow would come out, so they would have to try it again. On the second attempt, Mike Dimond got control of the lead, only to be overtaken on the outside of turn two by Brent Nielsen. Boggs, Friske and Darran Conrad all had a great race for second, with Friske grabbing the runner-up position before the caution waved once again. Third time is a (rainless) charm at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 29, 2024) – After a two week hiatus in events due to rain, Arlington Raceway managed to get an event in even though an inch and a half of rain fell the night before. Drivers were eager to get back to the track and compete and Bode Collision & Glass and K&R Towing put up an extra $100 to each feature winner so every feature was pretty intense. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks saw two different leaders. Jonathan Schroeder was the early leader but a yellow was thrown for Mac Tollefson on lap seven when he lost a tire and landed in the infield pond area. The following lap after the restart, Schroeder had troubles which sent him to the work area and later the pit, ending his night. That gave both Brett McConnell and Cory Probst an opportunity to gain positions on the restart. McConnell had the edge but he, too, ended up in the pit while Probst went on to lead the remainder of the race. Jordan Robinson had a [Read More]
