Weekend forecast forces change in Clash on the Coast schedule

BAKER, Fla. (Feb. 27, 2024) – An ever fickle Mother Nature has forced changes to the weekend part of the schedule for the IMCA Clash on the Coast. Tonight’s (Tuesday) speedweek event for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Northwest Florida Speedway is on as originally scheduled with Wednesday’s planned day off at the beach becoming a practice day at Southern Raceway. With developing potential for inclement weather, the scheduled Friday and Saturday races at Milton have been moved to Thursday and Friday, Feb. 29 and March 1. What was to have been the final night of racing on Saturday has been designated as a rain date should the Friday show fall to weather. All start times and gate admission rates remain the same. Each Clash on the Coast race program will be broadcast on IMCA.TV starting at 6:30 p.m. CST.

IMCA history made with Neal’s Clash on the Coast Stock Car win

BAKER, Fla. (Feb. 26, 2024) – After getting caught up in a first-lap caution, Gage Neal was wondering if he’d be able to stay in the race. After winning the first-ever IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature in Florida, he was thinking about leaving his car just the way it was. Neal topped Monday’s Clash on the Coast main event for The Class Too Tough to Tame at Northwest Florida Speedway, earning $1,000 and a chapter in the IMCA history book. After starting 17th and restarting 23rd following that early fracas, his checkers came ahead of heavyweights John Oliver Jr. and Dallon Murty. “It means the world to me. I never thought in a million years I’d be racing out of the Midwest,” the Anamosa, Iowa, driver said. “Obviously I’ve never been here (Baker) before or raced in the South at all.” “It’s pretty amazing to come here and win.” Nearly 100 Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds – Jeff Larson of Freeport, Ill., won that feature – and 49 Stock Cars competed on night one at Baker, representing 23 states and [Read More]

He’s 4-for-4: Smith completes second sweep at Kennedale Spring Kickoff

KENNEDALE, Texas (Feb. 24, 2024) – What Cody Smith described as a good start to the season after opening night of the Spring Kickoff got even better after night two. Smith repeated his Kennedale Speedway Park heroics Saturday evening, winning both Smiley’s Racing Products IMCA Southern SportMod and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features. Both Saturday checkers came from outside front row starts. Brandon McElroy was runner-up in the $750 to win Stock Car show while Jeffrey Abbey started 12th and finished third. Hard charger Jerrett Bransom hoofed it from 12th on the original grid to second while Cameron Gaston ended third in the $600 to win SportMod show. William Gould was in and out of the lead before rallying late to win his second Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature of the weekend while Randy Martin did some rallying himself to top the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact man. Gould collected another $1,000 for IMCA Modified career win number 192, ahead of familiar KSP foes Jacob Pirkle and Jake Upchurch. “It was challenging,” admitted Gould, who raced from third [Read More]

Gould collects Kennedale Modified checkers, Smith sweeps IMCA Spring Kickoff features

KENNEDALE, Texas (Feb. 23, 2024) – Kennedale Speedway Park has always been a favorite race track for William Gould and after Friday night it was easy to see why. The veteran from Calera, Okla., led start to finish of the opening night Spring Kickoff feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, running in lapped traffic much of the way before taking the $1,000 win, his first of the season and career 191st in the class, well ahead of runner-up Matt Martin. “The track was pretty fast, just the way I like it,” said Gould, a three-time track champion at KSP. “Starting on the pole, I felt like this was my race to lose but things went my way.” “Kennedale is one of my favorite places. When it’s fast, it’s really fast,” the Kerry Fryar Motorsports pilot continued. “Now maybe I can get some of that speed to rub off on the Stock Car.” Tenth on the all-time IMCA Modified wins list, Gould was already Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible. Martin made his way to second from [Read More]

Sisson is Sunday IMCA Mod Lite star at Winterfest

LEWISBURG, Tenn. (Feb. 18, 2024) – Other than the fact he didn’t win, Cody Sisson was fuzzy on the details of his finish the only other time he raced at Duck River Raceway Park, eight years ago. Odds are that he’ll remember everything about his Sunday showing there. Sisson dominated the second half of the 30-lapper for Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lites in collecting the $3,000 Winterfest checkers. “It’s a career-best payday for us,” said Sisson, a nine-year veteran of the class and from Talbott, a 3-1/2 hour hoof to the east, “and we’ve worked hard for it.” On board the RB Motorsports car out of Steubenville, Ohio, for the fourth season, Sisson started the Tennessee Mod Lite Racing Association main event from fourth, took over third early on and then moved to second following a lap six restart. He passed for the lead on lap 11 and was never challenged. “We ran the last half of the race in lapped traffic,” he said, “and had about a straightaway lead toward the end.” Logan [Read More]

Herring tops IMCA Modified Ice Breaker feature for first-ever Abilene win

ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 16, 2024) – Toby Herring used to come to Abilene Speedway hoping to make the show. On Friday night, the veteran from Hobbs, N.M., was the show. Herring  led all 20 laps of the Ice Breaker feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, getting the jump on Tyler Iverson to get the lead at the start and getting the best of up and coming Kade Ogle in what proved to be a hotly contested last time around the oval. “I had never won a race here. I had never won a race of any kind, heat or feature at Abilene so this is huge,” said Herring, $1,000 richer and newly eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “The best I’ve done was third at the Southern Challenge so this feels pretty good.” Ogle, 14th starting William Gould, Iverson and Tim Hamilton completed the top five in the headlined event of the 30th annual season opener at Abilene. “I knew Tyler would get a good jump,” Herring said. “We held our own on the bottom and after [Read More]

Sweet repeat for Raffurty at Sugar Bowl Winter Nationals

CLEWISTON, Fla. (Feb. 10, 2024) – His week of racing at Hendry County Motorsports Park was very different than last February, but the end results were just as sweet for Dillon Raffurty. Raffurty repeated his Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lite main event winning ways Saturday night, earning $5,000 for the Sugar Bowl Winter Nationals victory at Clewiston. While he’d dominated in Wednesday through Saturday shows in 2023, Raffurty bookended race of champions and main event wins around a DNF in the manufacturers’ dash and two third-place finishes in Twin 25 features on Thursday and Friday this time around. “Things were very different this year, that’s for sure,” the Kansas City, Mo., star said following IMCA win number 90 and his second big money checkers already this season. “They got the track prepped really good Saturday, with multiple grooves.” “I knew the bottom would come in and I ran the top side until it did.” Raffurty led the first 21 circuits before Ronnie Choate motored by. Raffurty races to big money at Brick City Nationals

OCALA, Fla. (Feb. 2-3, 2024) – Most of Dillon Raffurty’s first visit to Ocala Speedway was spent as a spectator. Saturday night, he was the $4,000 Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lite feature winner at the Florida speed plant’s Brick City Nationals. The Kansas City, Mo., hotshoe began his quest for a fourth consecutive IMCA national championship as runner-up to Tennessee star Ronnie Choate in Friday’s $1,000 to win main event at Ocala. He flipped the script the next night in topping the big money show, 1.2 seconds ahead of Choate following multiple cautions late in the 30-lapper. “We went back and forth Friday and I led early but caught lapped traffic at the wrong time and he got by me. I was able to make it close at the end but it was too little, too late,” said Raffurty. “Ronnie was fast early but I figured it out near midway,” he continued, after IMCA career win number 89 on Saturday. “Ocala is a very unique track. You can get creative there with the way [Read More]
