Co-sanctioned Hagerstown show next for PASS

By Frank Buhrman HAGERSTOWN, Md. (June 15, 2023) – The River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series will make its only 2023 appearance at Maryland’s Hagerstown Speedway this Saturday, joining a co-sanctioned program hosted by the Virginia Sprint Series and also involving the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series. It’s a Dad’s Night Out special program for Father’s Day weekend, with the IMC RaceSaver Sprint Cars racing, along with the wingless super sportsman cars that normally run at Path Valley Speedway, and the track’s regular late model sportsman division. PASS has only run in seven races at Hagerstown (although some teams have run more when VSS was racing there without the PASS co-sanction) and no driver has won more than once, which creates an opportunity for those drivers with single wins who plan on racing: Ken Duke, Jerald Harris, a VSS regular, Stevie Kenawell and Mike Melair. One could end the evening as the first two-time winner for a PASS race. To do that, though, they’ll have to overcome Logan Spahr, who won the first six PASS races [Read More]

Trebelhorn triumphs at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 10, 2023) – The wins are what you race for and Luke Trebelhorn raced to his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car first Saturday at Arlington Raceway. The second-year Stock Car driver started third, passed Mark Zimmerman on the seventh circuit and sailed to the checkers from that point, topping the 20-lapper in front of Dave Moriarty and Matthew Looft. “This is a tough class but that’s what makes it fun,” said Trebelhorn, who had a heat win and a couple top 10 finishes as a rookie last season. The car was sett up nice. Wins are what you strive for. It was a good feeling to get this one off our back and a lot of the other competitors came over after the race to congratulate me.” He’d won once in a Mach-1 Sport Compact, in 2015, before running an IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock and then getting into the Stock Car. Despite a lengthy rain delay, the entire program was completed with 111 drivers signed in for the night.  Clint Hatlestad was the [Read More]

Reed scores first PASS win of 2023

By Frank Buhrman SELINSGROVE, Pa. (June 10, 2023) – Austin Reed probably hasn’t had the 2023 River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series season that his team had hoped for, but a hard-fought win at Selinsgrove Speedway Saturday night just might prove the turning point. The Etters driver took advantage of an outside front row starting spot to out-drag Kenny Heffner for the early lead, then held off the most determined of charges by fellow veteran Doug Dodson to earn the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car victory. Dodson, who had finished ahead of Reed in their heat race, finished 0.613 seconds back at the checkered flag, after trying every move available to get by. Starting fourth, he had moved into the runner-up position on the first lap. The two drivers waged their most heated battle after a lap nine caution when Dustin Young and Colton Hoover tangled in turn four. The race went non-stop from that point, allowing the two racers to put on a hard-racing exhibition. Six-time winner Logan Spahr took third from Heffner late, completing [Read More]

Potter – Jack – prevails at US 36

By Rick Staley OSBORN, Mo. (June 9, 2023) – IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars witnessed a battle of the Potters during Saturday’s Sauter Memorial show at US 36 Raceway. Heat race winners Kenny Potter and Jack Potter dueled to the checkers in the main event for the winged class. Kenny Potter took the lead and appeared to be set to take the victory until Jack Potter close in about mid-race. Jack got by Kenny and pulled away in the closing laps, collecting his first feature win of 2023 at Osborn. Kenny placed a solid second with a fast Brett Combs racing his way to third. In their make-up race from the previous Friday, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars rolled to the speedway Matthew Lance taking the lead early. Bubak back in victory lane in Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (June 3, 2023) – Jake Bubak was back to teach his IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car foes a thing or two during the Schools Out For Summer show at Eagle Raceway. Winner of both the main event and the race of champions at last September’s RaceSaver Nationals, Bubak sprinted back to victory lane in the finale event of the evening Saturday. Bubak advanced to fourth following an early restart, got past Shayle Bade for third the next time around and advanced to second place on lap nine. He grabbed the lead with 12 laps left and went on to the win ahead of Brandon Horton and Stuart Snyder.  “This was just for one night. We’re trying to get Toby Chapman and Jeff Stefonik going a little better,” said Bubak, also the 2020 RaceSaver Nationals king. “They have been struggling all year, so we’re just here to help. We changed a whole bunch this week and still were changing throughout the night and the car ended up pretty dang good by the end of [Read More]

Larson, Larsen are Saturday winners at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 3, 2023) – They’re the seventh- and 54th-most common surnames in Minnesota but Larson or Larsen, however you spell it, was the most popular name in victory lane Saturday night at Arlington Raceway. Eric Larson was the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod winner and Josh Larsen the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner. Eric Larson started outside second row and by turn two was leading the SportMod main. Broddy Enter, who had started right behind him was trying to catch him but on lap seven Joey Reimers spun and brought out a yellow flag and a restart. On the restart, both Matt Looft and Zac Davis got around Enter but Larson was holding strong to his front position. Another yellow flag came out when Zach Malchow spun. This time, Looft and Davis exchanged spots and Looft tried to run down Larson but had to settle for second ahead of Davis and Ben Reierson took fourth. A.J. Zimmerman led the first two laps of the Stock Car feature from his front row start. Soon, [Read More]

Young wins first PASS feature, Spahr streak ends at six

By Frank Buhrman PORT ROYAL, Pa. (June 3, 2023) – Drew Young had been getting closer and closer. The third-year driver broke through Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, winning the 20-lap River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series feature and ending Logan Spahr’s 2023 undefeated streak. Young’s third-place finish in the second heat race put him in the feature redraw, where he drew the outside of the front row and then led all the way, masterfully handling traffic in the non-stop race to score a 5.328 second victory over Mike Melair, who registered his second runner-up finish of 2023. It has been an impressive climb for Young, who had never driven a race car before he brought his IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car out for the first in August of 2020. After four races that season, he became a regular in 2021 and earned three top-10 finishes in 20 starts. He added a pair of top-five’s last season and has regularly been more competitive this year, including taking a second at Port Royal on May 6 [Read More]
