Williamson wows Bloom crowd at CGS

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 1, 2024) – After getting those vision issues taken care of, Jesse Williamson kept his eyes on the prize and raced back to the front of the field and all the way to the Ralph Bloom Memorial checkers Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway. The Coburg chauffeur had taken the lead from the initial start of the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod 50-lapper but would have problems after part of his hood folded back and began to give him visibility issues. Williamson retired to the pit area following a lap five caution, had the hood removed and came back out restarting dead last. Ethan Killingsworth became the new leader. Several cautions prevented him from getting a significant lead but at the same time also prevented heavy lapped traffic. Around midway, Williamson was back in the top five and on lap 27, a three-car battle for second was waged between Williamson, Jorddon Braaten and Matt Sanders.  Williamson secured second on the 28th circuit and before long had his sights set on Killingsworth. Stien sprints to RaceSaver win at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 1, 2024) – Mike Stien led the distance Saturday at Arlington Raceway in winning his first IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature of the season. Stien started in the front row alongside Bruce Allen. The race behind them was Brett Allen moving forward and passing five cars to challenge. He tried to get under Stien a couple times but ran out of room on the track and settled for second ahead of Matt Johnson. Matt Looft repeated his winning ways from the previous week, topping both IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod features. Tony Stephensmeier led the Northern SportMod feature for the first seven laps before a caution was thrown for a spinning car. The field restarted and Reimers had misfortune again spinning off the track and that ended his night. On the restart, Looft was able to take over the lead spot and remain the leader to win with Eric Larson behind him and Jeff Lloyd taking third. The Stock Car feature saw three different leaders and four [Read More]

Fitz, Fisher fast in victories at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (June 1, 2024) – Some nights you’re just fast. Trevor Fitz and Joren Fisher proved that Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. Fitz dominated much of the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds presented by Wright Way Trailers and Fisher wasted little time making it to the front of the main event for IMCA Hobby Stocks presented by iHeart Radio. In the Modified 20-lapper, Fitz pulled away at the drop of the green and built a lead in excess of four seconds before the caution flag waved just shy of midway. On a couple ensuing restarts, Fitz again assumed command and fought off brief challenges from Cody Laney to score the victory. It was his first at The Bullring. Laney, Troy Cordes and Troy Morris III, who all started mid-pack, completed the top four. Fisher started outside of row four in the Hobby Stock headliner, but was challenging for the lead within the first circuit of that 15-lapper. He assumed command a short time later after a battle with Michael Kimm, and then drove away [Read More]

Memorial Weekend checkers fly for Rohleder

By Sheldon Wickwar HAYS, Kan. (May 25, 2024) – Friesen Performance IMCA Modified win number one of the season for Kyle Rohleder came Saturday night at RPM Speedway. The 2022 track champion at Hays got the lead on just the second circuit and held off a bevy of challengers before collecting his career 65th checkers in the class. Their 20-lap feature had started with a front row of Trevor Geist and Don Geist. Trevor gained the early advantage but quickly Rohleder settled into second place and took the lead on lap two. By lap four, Dylan Sherfick found third place and a lap later got by Trevor Geist for second. Jeremy Frenier got to third just before a caution came out. Sherfick and Rohleder raced side-by-side for the lead at halfway. Another caution came after Rohleder had again solidified the lead once but he slammed the door shut the last five times around the oval, winning in front of Sherfick and Daniel Gottschalk.
